By the way, big thank to David and his team. The last improvements in the software are really amazing and being able to shoot RAW almost converts Chronos 1.4 in another camera (much better one). Keep the great work!

Did you format the drive?

If yes, which file system did you chose?

Oh I forgot to mention that. I formatted it in Ext3 as was suggested before. I also tried the Ntfs, Fat32 and Exfat without success.

This is AWESOME!

Three crazy questions for you:

1. On your next camera can you have the main ram be based on intel Optane... Look how cheap these are:
https://amzn.to/2QlmOJ5

2. What can I do to speed up saving exports ? like will it be faster to save over Gig-E? Is ESATA working ?

3. I'm getting arouns 1fps saving to a USB 3.0 stick... does that sound right?

Hey Dan,

Right now the fastest saving method is via the eSATA port, which can typically sustain write speeds of about 60MB/s before the CPU runs out of speed, or about 25fps when saving raw at 1280x1024. To use this method you will need a 5V SATA drive (this includes almost all 2.5" drives), and an eSATA+power cable such as these available from Monoprice or Amazon

As for USB flash drives, I have quite a few cheap USB drives that exhibit absolutely terrible write performance (as low as 1fps as you have commented), as far as I can tell it seems to vary quite widely as to how well they perform under heavy write loads.

I have a question Foobar. I tried to do everything that you specified in order to save raw files to SSD via eSata, but I can not manage to make the chronos camera detect the SSD.

I bought 120GB kingston SSD, esata+power cable (exactly as in the amazon link you sent) and I have the 0.3.1 beta version installed.

Can someone point me out how can I make the Chronos recognize the SSD?

Thanks!

Hi David!

First of all, please excuse me for the slow reply.
I just made a compilation of a shot taken with a standard DSLR camera a (lumix fz1000) and the Chronos 1.4.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz3D_Jwk70plZnRCNDFCcThZTkE/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz3D_Jwk70plUTV5QUUtVUFoTUU/view?usp=sharing
Several considerations must be done first: .
I used a high quality light (CRI of 95) for both shots in order to eliminate light source as the possible origin of the problem.
Also, i made a white balance on both cameras just before taking the pictures.
The first photo is of the lumix, second is of the Chronos without any corrections and third is of the same second picture with  an exposure and whitebalance correction.

The left photo is taken with the Lumix and the colors are pretty much the same as the human eye can see.

The "problem" is that one of the green colors (the one marked in red elipse) is somewhat different from the green colour captured by the lumix.
I know it doesnt seems as much of a deal on that particular example, but this problem is much more visible outdoor with sunlight as source. Here is an example:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz3D_Jwk70plbGdiNEQ5SW0zdTQ/view?usp=sharing

I am sorry i did not took a picture with the Lumix camera but I am sure the grass was way more green. It was very fresh and in the shot it seems very old almost burn from the sun.

Hope this two examples can serve you as a reference.
By the way, I have 4 ideas of what might be the problem:
1) The sensor that Chronos uses has dificulties capturing this particular wavelength
2) Mi sensor in particular happens to be a bit "bad"
3) The IR filter in front of the sensor is causing part of the problem (i could not dismount it in order to make a test shot without it)
4) The problem might be caused by saving the shot with the standard "0.70" pixel bitrate instead on something higher.

Best regards and thank you for the constant help.

Hello,

I have noticed that the camera has hard time capturing properly green objects (it is shifting only the greens toward the yellow colour)
I was wondering if this is an issue with the IR filter that is just in front of the sensor or with the sensor itself.
Do you have any good suggestions to fix it?

Thank you!

PS: The problem more likely is not related to the lighting because I am using high quality CRI (colour rendering index) diodes  and it also happens during sunlight shooting

Thank you for the fast answer David  :D

I forgot to mention that I tried to increase and decrease bit rates, but it didnīt seemed to influence the results at all.

All my 3 SD cards are SanDisk.

I kept doing some tests after my first message and for some reason I no longer have any problem with the UHS 3 card. No frames skipping at all. I donīt have any idea what the problem was  but it seems to be solved.

Chronos User Discussion / Problems with exporting video to SD card
« on: July 01, 2017, 10:35:36 AM »
Hello,

I have been experiencing some problems with exporting the videos from Chronos to a SD card. The videos are perfectly smooth in the playback, but once exported to a SD card they are sometimes not smooth (glitching /missing frames). I tried 3 different SD cards (from a very old 2GB card to a 64GB UHS class 3 card - 95MB/s) but the problem persists. I also formated them in FAT32 and NTFS systems but Chronos seems to work only with FAT32. I added several examples so that you can see what I am talking about:

First example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz3D_Jwk70plMXFFS3h0Q3F6LWc/view?usp=sharing
Here you can see how there is a missing frames just when the top of the match starts falling - this was recorded to an old 2 GB SD card

Second example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz3D_Jwk70plWVlISGh5RFpHbWs/view?usp=sharing
Here for some reason the frames skipping is a bit more dramatic. See from 0:39 to 0:44 and from 3:11 to 3:13
(it must be the most boring video taken with a Chronos camera but it is just so that you can see the problem). This was recorded to the new very fast 64GB SD card.

Does someone has any clue what is causing the problem and how it can be fixed?

Thanks
