Chronos User Discussion / eSATA to Computer...
« on: February 06, 2024, 10:37:42 AM »
Hi! I'm saving tiffs to a 480GB Sandisk SSD Plus via eSata. I thought this was the recommended method, but how is everyone getting their videos onto their computers? Right now i'm switching out the cables (from a 22pin SATA/esata cable to a 22pin SATA/usb cable)...which I worry is going to break down the SSDs pins over time. I tried this cable (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N1KYP7U?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) but then the hard drive doesn't show up on the camera or the computer...any advice is very much appreciated!!
Thank you!!

Chronos User Discussion / Save Format Information
« on: September 07, 2022, 04:41:06 AM »
Hi! I was looking for a little bit more information about the save format options on the Chronos 2.1 we have...the H.264, CinemaDNG and Tiff formats I am very familiar with but know very little about the rest of them. What are the pros/cons of using TiffRaw? Or of using Raw 12 bit or Raw 16 bit (how do you open this format?) In what instances do you choose which?
TIA!

Chronos User Discussion / Chronos 2.1 Not Turning On
« on: August 16, 2022, 09:51:28 AM »
Hi,
Has anyone had any issues with their cameras not turning on/showing that they're receiving any kind of power? I'm in contact with tech support, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any issue like this they were able to resolve. I've tried multiple different charging cords/locations and different batteries. Nothing is bringing this guy back to life :(
TIA,
Laura

Chronos User Discussion / Pre Record Trigger Delay <1 frame?
« on: October 07, 2021, 06:50:12 AM »
Hi! I'm back with more weird questions. I'm circling back around again, trying to synchronize two Chronos 1.4 cameras to essentially double our frame rate -IF we can capture interlacing frames-BY having a delay that is exactly HALF a frame long... We are shooting at 25k fps (because we need to maintain what little resolution we have at that rate). So 2 frames at 25k comes up as being .0001 seconds long (at least as shown on the pre-record trigger delay). I cannot get the delay to go any shorter than that...any suggestions/ideas to try? I'm all ears.
Thank you all- so thankful for this "Chronos Support Group" (at least that's what it's become to me).

Chronos User Discussion / Max Frame Rate Possible/Software Version
« on: July 28, 2021, 09:08:52 AM »
Hi,
I am working with two 1.4's and one 2.1 on varying software versions... I am wondering what your max fps settings are and what software version you're using. I've lost track of which update had the highest possible fps, I swore one of them got up to 108k.
Thank you,
Laura

Hi,
Has anyone tried using two Chronos cameras to capture alternating frame to therefore double the frame rate?
Thank you,

Chronos User Discussion / What Lights Do You Use?
« on: January 29, 2021, 05:34:10 AM »
I know there is an old thread about lighting but i'm not finding definitive answers.
What lights are you most successful with? We have been using 1000W halogen's but they are too hot for our temperature sensitive subject.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Chronos User Discussion / Computer Controlled Chronos (non-internet)
« on: January 13, 2021, 09:49:30 AM »
Hi,
I feel like this has to be posted somewhere but I can't seem to find it! Is there a way to control the Chronos & save data with & to a computer without using internet/ethernet? If so, are there instructions listed somewhere?
Thank you!

Chronos User Discussion / Custom Color Matrix
« on: December 02, 2020, 05:56:12 AM »
Hi!
I am looking for any kind of information regarding the custom color matrix. I can't seem to find anything online about it at all and the manual just says you need to be a master white balancer to use it without any other kind of info about it... I felt like I was pretty well versed in white balancing but it appears not!
Thank you!

Chronos User Discussion / White Balance in 2.1 Issues
« on: May 27, 2020, 06:22:25 AM »
Hi, I am having some issues with white balancing. I used a white card to set a custom white balance and then took an image of a color checker. Why does it look so awful? I did not change anything from the white balance set up to the color checker image.
TIA

Hi,
I am working with a 2.1 and am having some issues with motion blur.

I am not lacking in light so the exposure is as low as possible as for obtaining the sharpest images...

I can only get images without blur at frame rates above 10k fps.

But with the same set 1.0us exposure, the images I get out of anything lower than 10k fps have definite motion blur.

If the shutter speed is the same, why am I having blur? What part of this am I missing?

I would love to have a lower fps & higher res but there's no point if there's blur...

Thank you in advance!

Chronos User Discussion / Chronos 2.1 FPS>5406???
« on: February 14, 2020, 05:31:27 AM »
Hi,
We just received our 2.1 and I am not able to get to any lower resolutions than 640x480 and thus am not able to get any faster rates than 5406fps. With our 1.4 we were able to get to much lower resolutions/higher fps. I have tried adjusting all settings to see if there was any change whatsoever but I have not been able to find a solution.
Thank you in advance for your help.

General high-speed discussion / Shadowgraph Troubleshooting
« on: August 29, 2019, 08:49:27 AM »
Hi,
I am having a difficult time saving out raw files of our shadowgraph setup. The mp4's look great. I was just hoping to have the raw files to play with. But they are saving out very strangely. Here is an example of the mp4 vs the raw frame...
Any tips or advice?
 Thank you in advance,
Laura

Chronos User Discussion / Question about Shutter Speed
« on: December 06, 2018, 10:14:19 AM »
Hello!
I have been trying the achieve a shutter speed of 1us or faster. I've noticed that on a couple of the Chronos presets the minimum shutter speed can go as low as 850ns (800x480 & 3,587 fps). A few other presets's shutter speed minimums are at 1.010, 1.210, 1.040 and the majority at 1.200. The preset with the highest frame rate at 31,191 fps has a minimum SS of 1.040... while another preset for 21,649 fps has minimum SS of 1.210...
What am I missing? I just can't find any rhyme or reason to this and i'm wondering how that limitation is calculated. I need to maintain a frame rate of at least 15k. Is there a combination of resolution and frame rate that will allow for a shutter speed faster than 1us?
Thank you for any input!

Software Dev / Start Trigger
« on: May 07, 2018, 05:56:18 AM »
Hi
I am running v 2.5 beta on a Chronos 1.4 Monochrome 16gb and am wondering if there is anyway to bnc start trigger rather than end trigger.
We have the camera in a waterproof housing and it gets really hot after the camera has sat in there recording while we lower our setup into the water...assuming it would be less hot if it were not in there recording while we're finishing up...
Thank you,
Kind regards,
Laura
