I don’t know who that is but he has a lot of followers.

I analyzed my Schlieren images and noticed shock diamonds in some of them. These were filmed at 32k fps.

I also captured shock diamonds from a suppressor shooting a .30cal plastic bullet. 11gr traveling over 4K feet per sec. Filmed at 40k fps.

I’m real curious to see your Schlieren setup, lens used etc. it’s something I’ve always wanted to try.

Looks good for the first go at it. Remember, light, light and more light. And you can set a custom resolution as well to get the frame rate up while constraining the image area.

Peltier modules are voltage specific from what I recall and need to have decent regulation. So in that regard I would use a PWM circuit, or try anyway, in order to control the cooling level of the module. At least on an experimental basis. On a design basis, I would use a thermostat with feedback similar to how a heated crystal oscillator works so as to keep the imager temperature consistent regardless of the environment. You would want something along the lines of a PID controller as opposed to a slam-bang thermostat. Another option might be a heat pipe on the imager with a Peltier module on the other end if module space is an issue.

Just list it here, that’s how I was able to purchase mine. You can try eBay but they take a hefty cut and the scammers are really bad on tech items.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Custom Color Matrix

I've tinkered with the settings to see what effect they had but didn’t learn much from messing with them. I assume you have a grey color balance reference. If not they are cheap on Amazon I use this one  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HT9MA1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_4X3ZFbGKQJM09?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

In regards to color balancing as a pro, you need a video waveform monitor & vector scope plus a set of ‘chip charts’ Grayscale & color. Your shoot these under your lighting. For the grayscale you look at the waveform monitor and minimize the chrominance on the steps using color adjustments. For color balance you look at the color chart and adjust your color balance & luminance so that the vectors hit all of their boxes. At least that’s how it is done in the days of NTSC broadcast TV. Not sure in the digital world these days.

Nice stuff here!

Yet another free-fall-follow-focus clip.

Like Hans Gruber falling from Nakatomi Plaza.  ;D

Luke, I tried both from your tweet and directly from your youtube channel and no luck on the sparkler video.

It certainly shows that there is no such thing as a bad shot when shooting with a high speed camera.
What video editing software was used?

Nice. It would be interesting to see the higher speed 40kfps upscaled. Curious what effect it would have on resolution.

I bought a couple of these Stratus LED units with the reflector. I haven’t put them through their paces yet but they are a reasonably cost effective solution if you don’t mind making your own mounts to hold them.

Saw the tweet about the minor update but nothing pertaining to what the update was about.

Not sure without trying it but you might be able to go into the Custom Color Matrix menu and alter settings there. Otherwise software strip the color.
