Software Dev / Re: Updating the UI: Play & Save Edition

Ok, one more feedback re "the middle column of pixels of the frame of video under that position on the bar."

I suspect that most videos are tripod-based with little to no movement, yes? I think it's a cool idea, but developing for the 90% use case, I wonder if the effort is worth the essentially-zero payoff, as the entire strip would be full of perfectly identical columns.

Carry on and do what you do, but if there's another feature or bug on your plate, maybe ... ummmm ... ehhhhh. ;)

Why not just tap the live view to zoom ... maybe 4x, tap again to restore to 1x?

Like this?

You could get rid of the "Presets" label completely, and stretch the dropdown to fit. The visual alignment might be more pleasing.

Wait, we'll be able to save multiple sections of the same recording? Will they be saved as separate files, or stitched together?

My only feedback on the screenies: The + and - speed buttons appear to be reversed.

Now that the images are correct, I need to change my answer to "I'd opt for E, but place the Presets menu at the top."

:)

I'd opt for B, but place the Presets menu at the top.

But I'm still curious what E looks like. :)

version c but maybe with a few tweaks,
switch record settings with the white balance,
switch the prefs & utilities with black balance

that way all camera settings are across the top where not used as much and then the right hand side is all the buttons used while shooting

Seconded

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Fan running much faster?
« on: February 19, 2018, 09:18:07 PM »
Nah, same room. I let it idle on the table next to me yesterday, and it took 70-90 mins to run from 100% to 0%, which I think is about the same battery life I had before. Sound about right? This leads me to think that it's not "working hard" on anything, not generating more heat. So the extra noise is likely just my imagination?

Chronos User Discussion / Fan running much faster?

Is anyone else's fan running much faster/louder with the last two beta updates? I'll admit that I haven't used my camera in a couple months, but I don't remember it being so jet-engine-ey the last time I powered it up.

Were there any changes in the fan controller that could explain it? Or am I just nuts?

Software Dev / Saving setting across reboots is BAD
« on: December 30, 2017, 11:36:19 AM »
The last three times I've used my camera, I've been troubled by how dark, how tightly framed, how unusable the view was. "Oh right, this is set up for the last shot I did a week ago, with settings that are in no way applicable to this shot." The requirement to manually and studiously reset the camera to a known-good zero point is ridiculous.

Saving settings across reboots might be nice for lab environments, but I don't feel that that's this camera's primary scenario. It's small, light, battery powered, untethered, super mobile, designed for faster deployment than others can ever hope for. The default state should allow for fast power-up-and-shoot with the least fiddling as possible. The default state should be one which offers the best chance of "getting the shot" with no double-checking. That is: full frame, full shutter, 0 gain.

Please add an advanced toggle to save settings across power cycles. I can certainly see the value when shooting in the field for long periods of time, having to change batteries, waiting for weather to clear, etc.

But as a default, it's horrible. The first step when powering on the camera should not be "go though every setting and put it back to normal so I can build up from the known-zero point."

In short, allow people to use the camera as they like. If people like the saved settings, great! But don't force the default which requires all other users to "fix" the settings from last week before embarking on a new shooting scenario today.

I'm getting best save performance to a high-end USB 3.0 compatible thumb drive formatted fat32, at about 13 MB/s. It's twice as fast as a '30 MB/s' rated SD card, which seems to only give me about 7 MB/s? Maybe it's not a good card.

...

Partitioned memory mode is cool. I don't see support for being able to switch memory segments yet though, did I miss something?

I get about 10% faster saves when using a USB>SD adapter vs the same card in the SD slot. I think the USB interface is just slightly faster, for one.

Same question here.

Software Dev / Re: Problems updating

So today I tried to update the firmware to V2.

Just for my own curiosity, is this just a dry run update? You already have the latest firmware installed. ;)
