The processing overhead for creating DNG files or H.264 encoded MP4 files is relatively low compared to the other factors like drive&bus speed.
You won't see a significant speed improvement if you compare raw to DNG saving, but it is there. Mostly because only one large file needs to be created. (Which might lead to FAT32 problems if it gets too big)

The fastest saving is H.264 encoded MP4, but it goes along with quality reduction.

To get the highest speed you should use the eSATAp Port instead of USB and safe to a SSD.

Nice!
With the stability apparently bneing fixes, I'm going to upgrade to 0.7 from 0.5 soon.

By the way: The PDF Release Notes state version 0.6 in the upper left ;)

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Time tagging

The timer in the video overlay always refers to your triggerpoint, and depending on the triggermode it couunts down (post trigger) or up (pre-trigger). The ~17 seconds are roughly the maximum record time for a 32GB RAM camera model, so they are somewhat expected.

As far as I know, the Cameras on-board Wallclock-time is only used for filenames and can't be embedded in the videos. Also, It's not really precise.
The best way to exactly align the shot to an external time reference would be to use capture the triggertime (e.g. via external hardware) and then sync to that afterwards.

So I was packing up today to take the 2.1 to Costa Rica for 24 days and when I was testing my lighting setup, the camera starting behaving strangely with the following output.

Notice all the short vertical lines.

I have also recorded this short video of the output I'm getting.
https://youtu.be/ZucoK26jrfk

I have completed a black calibration and Column Gain Calibration trying to resolve the issue with no change.  I haven't changed any settings since last shooting.

I've sent this to support for some help, however they are closed for Easter week, and I'm really under the gun.

If anyone has any ideas to resolve this, I would love to hear them.
Thank you,
Matt Shetzer

This looks very similar to an error I encountered once with the 1.4. In my case, the RAM was broken, and Krontech offered to replace it under warranty. You should contact them directly via email (and not using the forums as the take quite a long time to respond here).

The linked instructions say that special factory calibration files are no longer needed for both the 1.4 and the 2.1, while the first post here only mentions the 2.1 – can anyone please clear this up? Can the 1.4 generate it's calibration entirely on its own or is this limited to the 2.1?
Also, as the update currently cant be done "in place" but requires an SD-Card update, is the existing "factory" calibration data still relevant ion some way (like providing better results?)

I also think you are limited by the USB ports data capability. As far as I'm aware, the Chronos uses a USB 2.0 port combined with an eSATA Port. If at all possible, use the eSATA connection which is much faster than the USB one.q

At my cameras this thin line happend if I change the resolution and forgot a black calibration. Or I using the exposure slider - then I have to make a black calibration too.
Waaaaaaait. So using the exposure slider requires a black calibration afterwards?  :o Was this documented somewhere and I just completely missed it or forgot it?
I had this problem as well in the early days, so there's probably a threat about it here somewhere, but it's not exactly in the official documentation ;)

I bought a couple of these Stratus LED units with the reflector. I haven’t put them through their paces yet but they are a reasonably cost effective solution if you don’t mind making your own mounts to hold them.

I have five or six of them and they work great! Do however be careful to not fully discharge your batteries with them, as they don't have any control circuits to prevent damage to your cells and will just run as long as physically possible. Or add a small battery management chip depending on the type of battery you intend to use.

After quite a bit of (unrelated) recalibrating of my 3D printer I finally got around to printing this. It works great! Thanks for the idea and the files!

This is a great idea, I will test this!

The m2 screws are to secure the SATA cable in the SSD holder to prevent it from moving/shifting when connected to the SSD.
Ah, thanks! I personally don't need those as the disc and cable are relatively tight in there already, but good to know.

so i would expect that more heat means, battery drains faster, and that High gain would draw more power.
As far as I'm aware recording does not consume more power than idling.
The power consumption is pretty constant apart from the fan, which obviously depends on the external temperature.

My USB-Soundcard finally broke completely yesterday after Years of hard use and Abuse. Litteraly into pieces... So today i went and bought a New USB-Audio-Interface. And the first thing to do with it is obviously hooking it up to the Trusty Hameg Osciloscope and blast Globetrotter on it to film it with the Chronos. Looks way better than the old one. Settings used: FullHD @1kfps; somewhere around 180° Shutter; 0dB Gain; Schneider-Kreuznach 50mm 0.95 @f/1.2; No grading/ Editing/ Sharpening on this one, also no denoise, just run it to AE very quickly to compress it for posting here and turn up the Saturation a bit on the Green. This one is rather long, but i kept it as is from the Camera .h264 .mp4 File anyways.
Also, i just noticed, i maybe forgot to do Black-Calibration on the Bottle one, hence the Weird Lines all over the Shadow areas in the Image. Have to keep an eye on this, but still new to the cameras Workflow, so Black-Cal is a thing to remember bevore shooting important stuff.

That walking Stick-figure is awesome! Also congrats on finally getting your Chronos ;)
