After I finish writing the manual we'll release Release Candidate 1 for Beta 0.3. I'm on the fifth revision of the manual now, so... soon™! :D

I talked with David via Mail about a HDR-Mode for the Chronos, and he said that there Was one in Developement currently.
Do you know, how far developement has come upon that topic?
Is that HDR-Mode planed to be Released with the next beta or do we have to wait a bit longer for that?

We've still got plans for HDR-Mode, but unfortunately not much more than that at the moment. We are focusing on getting beta 0.3 out the door. An HDR-mode is something us at Krontech would really like to see too. :)

Sounds good keep us up to date so I know when to test
The manual for beta 0.3 is nearing completion. There's a few data tables still missing, and we need to take updated pictures of the camera. Still, the heavy writing is done now. We'll need to actually test the camera, to make sure it does what the manual says it does, before we officially release the update though. That and a handful of bugfixes. ::)

What do you mean by "cannot use"? Does the screen display the main menu? Is the video always just black?

I'm writing the user manual now. I don't know how long it'll take, since I'm working off the old one atm. After that, we'll need to do some testing to make sure nothing's broken. Then we'll release the next beta. 8)

While I imagine the release will come fairly quickly, on the order of weeks as opposed to months, I don't actually know. The last release was before I started with Krontech, so I don't have a good idea what we actually need to do here.

It is indeed a bug. I think Simon has fixed this, possibly again, but we haven't landed the patch yet. It should be fixed in the next update. :D

Today, I spent 6˝ hours putting the little preview video in the little preview window properly. Well, more properly. It doesn't yet adjust for things like exposure properly, but I'm going to leave that until later.

I have to say, I think I agree. The button does look better to the right. 🤔

Initial implementation... very young right now. Some stuff doesn't work, and some stuff (like the drop-down arrows) is just missing... but it is usable! :D

I enlarged the buttons' hitboxes a lot, so you can tap them much easier. Generally, there is no dead space between controls now. The "Done" button hitbox extends all the way to the edge of the screen, for example.

I will support iPhones in addition to Android; the app will be built as a nice, modern web app so it ought to work just about everywhere outside of IE. :D

Thanks! Credit where credit is due: it's pretty much all Loial's doing. 8)

I'll be working on an external application that you can use to control the Chronos, after I've implemented a redesign of the onboard touchscreen interface. You'll be able to control the camera from your phone or laptop then. (It'll be a completely separate interface from the onboard touchscreen one.)

Would that help?

I would have zero issue with it being *in addition to* zoom in/out buttons. It's a great short cut that many people seem comfortable with or want it.
(I don't really like it myself, having dealt with the frustration of old/damaged/dirty(or heavily protected) gear not registering the second finger/dropping touches/etc. Trying to hold a large/heavy device in two hands while doing multi-tap is a pain. If it's set up on a light tripod or balanced atop something to set up the shot.)
That is a mighty good point, and one I hadn't thought of. Thank you for bringing it up.

One thought: Mentioned in another thread is that someone would like the ability to use the camera with an external HDMI screen and a mouse. I can imagine this being a very useful feature(Much like being able to plug a mouse into an android smartphone and having it bring up a cursor).
After I've implemented the restyled back-of-camera interface, I'll be making a dedicated app you can run on a computer or cellphone. It'll have good mouse support. :)

And I keep forgetting to mention it. I like the 'exposure changed' reminder. That is a nice(if unrelated) touch.
Thanks!  ;D

on the exposure changed thought, when is the black calibration going to be faster like it says in future versions of firmware, is this being worked on for next version?
Right now, we've got it down to 4 seconds for max resolution, and more or less instantaneous at low resolutions.

We've got a few ideas to make it effectively instantaneous, at which point we'll remove the little reminder popup and just perform software black cal when we need to. (This probably won't make it into the next release though.)

Tap to zoom would be perfectly fine for quick double-check-focus actions. But then again, that's assuming that one's focus point is in the center of the frame. If not, one would need to tap to zoom, then drag to recenter on the focus point. So maybe pinch-zoom-pan is the only universally usable option.

I like simplicity of code, but now I'm torn. :)
We'd probably want to make it zoom in on wherever you tapped.

One way around pinch to zoom, assuming there is room to add them, would be a 'zoom in/out' button pair then 'drag' to pan around would work.
Agreed.

Maybe, depending on what others think, you can have 'focus aids' and that would invert/depress the button and replace recording settings/play+save with 'zoom in/out'  'zebra toggle' 'focus aid level'   etc. and show that your in a different viewing mode?   Would adding this extra step get in the way of other's workflow?
I think it would be OK. Especially with a predictable opening position, sub-menus are quite quick once you are familiar with them.

Currently, I only have one sub-menu in the design. The Focus Aid button's settings got brought out of the Util screen. It will make it one more tap, or at least a more complex tap, to toggle Focus Aid. But I think it's worth it to be able to see what the settings you're setting are doing.

I'm going to have to play around with it a little more before I know exactly how interaction will be. I'll do whatever feels natural to me, but it'll probably be something like 'tap outside the menu to close it, tap inside to press buttons on it'. Nothing too wild. I am considering, if you drag onto the menu, it auto-closes when you release... but I think that might be 'nice but weird', which I don't really like. Like I said, I'll have to play around with it.

But here's a wrench in the works: When changing any of parameters, there'll be a disconnect between what's "selected" as a preset, and what's shown below.

When one alters any of the values, should the presets dropdown "gray out" or otherwise indicate that "what's in this box is no longer accurate, please refer to the individual boxes below"?
That's a good idea. In the current iteration, the dropdown just stays the same. I should probably change it say "custom" or something when a value is changed.

these look good but add save as preset button!

OK. I'm pretty sure this won't make it into this iteration, as we're trying to keep light the new features, but it'll probably make it into an update pretty soon after. It's a good idea. :)
