Chronos User Discussion / Re: Network connection problem
« on: March 20, 2022, 07:04:27 AM »
Just to make sure, you are connecting the Camera to some kind of Switch or Router and the Computer is also connected to that Same Switch or Router?
Wont work on a Direct Connection between Camera and Computer.

Chronos User Discussion / Active MFT Mount
« on: March 18, 2022, 03:06:00 PM »
Anyone Interested in any development Efforts towards building a Active MFT- or other Mirrorless Mount for the Chronos Cameras?
Meaning any kind of Mount that would allow for Electronic Communication With Lenses that need to, for them to properly work (for example Focus By Wire MFT- or Sony Lenses).

Chronos User Discussion / Re: First update - need help.
« on: March 17, 2022, 11:45:56 PM »
In the "About" Tab you can see which Version exactly you are running. Would need to look it up, as i believe there have been very early versions which would need to have you update Manually, But Most versions should have a Button somewhere to check for Updates and should automatically be able to figure out the latest most recent version and Install that.
 .
However, even if you could do that, i personally would still recommend to just download the most Recent Stable Software Version from debian.krontech.ca (which in this Case at the current time is 0.7.2), and get some New Micro-SD-Card to flash the New Software onto. Keep the Other one with the old Software around In case something goes wrong or doesnt work with the New Version (or as a known working Point to Fall back onto at least, if for example the other SD Card breaks or something unexpected, very rare, but SD Cards can fail sometimes), or goes Wrong while you would try to update. You might even discover something about the new version some time later down the line, which you dont like or not used to for some reason, so in my opinion it would make a lot of sense to have the Option to go back, as its really not much more work, and Micro SD-Cards are really fairly cheap. Thats at least how i do it, and can recommend anyone to also do that, especially with such a extreme Gap between the Versions.
 .
Whatever you end up doing, make sure to Properly backup Factory Calibration Data and Settings, as i think you would at least very much need them, if you had to re-install the Version you are currently running, in case you had to go back to that for some Reason. On newer versions i think you wouldnt need them, but i would still want to keep them, as a bunch of older versions absolutely need them, in case you ever want to run one of those ever again. Also take note of the Exact version of Software you are Running, and make sure, that is still available to download (for example, there has been a version of Software, which would allow the 1.4 to run 200kfps or something like that, and none after that did allow you to do that. I can see, why you would want to keep that around somewhere, because all versions after cant do that out of the Box. Someone from Krontech somewhat recently posted some Steps you need to do, to Modify existing current Software Releases to also be able to do that, but i personally dont know if i would be able to follow them to get that to work. This Version is not available anymore, so in that case, if i was you, i would for sure want to keep that old SD Card and just not Touch the Software on there, and just Flash a New one with the Current Version. Then you could go back whenever you want, or need the 200Kfps for example, and just run the New Software with probably much Improved Color and a bunch of other added Features all the other time.).

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 2.1 rig or cage
« on: March 14, 2022, 02:45:10 PM »
I had smallrig design a cage for my Chronos 1.4.

Is that an official Product yet, that can be bought anywhere or just some Prototype/ custom Production Piece?
 .
#EDIT#: Had a look around their Website, couldnt find anything about it there, same for a Web search, so i guess not yet, or not officially released, if its going to be Officially available.

General high-speed discussion / Re: DNG Raw Chronos 2.1-HD
« on: March 13, 2022, 07:03:34 AM »
Here is the Actual DNG Footage. Had to split them up into Sets of 30 Frames Each, and Very Heavily Compress them with 7Zip to be able to get them Small Enough. All of them are untouched, and the Following posts will contain 30 Frames each, which when unpacked should make for a continuous Sequence of 210 Frames, so at 25fps thats 8,4 Second worth of Playtime.
To save Space on The Forum, all following Posts will be deleted after you confirmed, that you downloaded them successfully, this one and the one before that i will leave here for anyone else, that might come here later to also have look at, if they wanted to.

Hi, sorry for the delayed Reply, finally found some Time to record a bit of Footage for you on the Current Firmware Version.
Here Is a DNG-Color Reference Frame and the Full Clip of the DNG-Sequence i will post following to this Post.
This Clip right here is already color corrected, graded in Resolve and compressed quite a bit to be able to upload it here. The Color Reference Frame is untouched straight from the Camera, apart from Renaming it.
 .
Settings used here are 0dB Analog Gain; 0dB Digital Gain; 179° Shutter Angle; 1000fps; 1920x1080px Resolution; Old Russian 50mm Lens on a Contax Mount @ f/4.
Lights used are a total of 1700W LED Studio Lights.

Can you share a Image where this issue is present or at least the Settings you use; Like Camera Model (1.4 or 2.1), Firmware Version; Resolution, Shutter Setting; Gain Setting (analog and Digital) as well as Framerate and Possibly White Balance/ Color Matrix Settings?
Would help a lot in figuring this out, otherwise i can only share my best guess regards this.
 .
I assume its probably a High Gain setting causing this, as that was a common issue with Previous Firmware Versions when Overexposing and is still sometimes present in the Current Firmware Version if extreme Settings are used.
With this camera / Sensor used in the Camera, you usually want to avoid (at least extreme ) overexposure, or if you have to, use a really low gain Setting like 0dB Gain. If you need solid White Color Output Pixels as a result, it probably is beneficial for image Quality to not overexpose, but rather leave the Brightest spot still a little below clipping, then Boost Exposure in Post Production from DNG Footage, or using Color Curves or whatever Tool You Prefer to do that.

As of now, an option to do what you want would be to use the Auto Power Mode of the Camera (described on page 91/92 of the Manual https://www.krontech.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/RE-PDEV-10009-Chronos-User-Manual-Full-Software-Version-0.7.0.pdf ) in combination with something that can Power on and off a Mains Outlet like a Switched Socket, to which you would connect your Chronos AC Power Adapter.
Here is an Example for a German Plug version of a Ethernet Switched Socket, which would allow you to control it via Wired Ethernet Connection or Wireless Connection. Obviously you would need to find something that would fit whatever Type of Plug/ Outlet is in use where you live (or rather where the Camera is being used).

 https://cdn-reichelt.de/documents/datenblatt/E910/ALLNET_ALL4175_QIG_EN.pdf
 .
Other than that, i think there is currently no wake-on-lan option Present in the Camera Software.

Things happening inside a DLP-Projector (3 Colors x 30fps would make for 90 Actions Per Second for a Single Chip Projector running on 30fps) would also be extremely interesting to see, but probably highly challenging to pull off, because of small size of the Micro-Mirrors (at least like 2x Magnification or way more needed to see much of anything here, for Closeups better use straight up Microscopy Lenses, like Tesla500 did with his Record Player Needle).
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_micromirror_device
 .
#EDIT:# They do actually way more Actions per Seconds, as they use basically HF-PWM for Pixel Brightness, Switching them On and Off VERY Quickly. Means, that should also be able to be seen on the Projected Image, no need to take one Apart... #/EDIT#

Also while we are at it, lets put this here:
Someone get hold of some crazy car people and Reshoot some of those:
 .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hspem5l2DOU (Probably the best example, but still very hard to Make out what is happening besides the fairly obvious Wrinkles on the Side , overally to dark between tire and Ground, also not sure if that is actually 10kfps, or if they put a zero too much there?)
 https://youtu.be/rw3LE78gwhg?t=10
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXp2QgY1OB8
 https://youtu.be/lNjJaTt0hNw?t=46
There are some Videos of these Extreme Tires on Extreme Cars, but most are fairly Wide Shots, and Closeups are usually old Videos with bad Resolution; While almost all of them are also fairly low Framerate as far Highspeed Cameras go, with a few exceptions; with just available Light, which is usually not ideal for these.
So basically the Same thing, just better Lighting, Closer, and Higher Framerate (most of these are shot on Gopros or Phones from what i seen, get someone with a proper Camera and some Lights there, or at least a decent Size Reflector).
Also not sure how Covid is doing regards these kinds of Racing-Events, or whatever the People with these Cars do meanwhile. I personally never seen any of those in person and wouldnt even know where to look for that, also dont have time to seek up something like that, maybe that is a America only Thing.
 .
 .
Other Thing including Cars would be these absurdly Powerful Sound-Systems Flexing Cars around like if they are Rubber.
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wgo41fU_OI
On that Video in Particular i assume most of that is actually Rolling Shutter, which makes it look THAT extreme, but that is insane Anyways, that it even Flexes that much in the First Place. At least that one should not be too difficult to shoot and also result in nice Footage, given you could find something with some unusually Massive Woofers in his car.

I indeed do wonder sometimes...?
 https://forum.krontech.ca/index.php?topic=521.msg3978#msg3978
 .
No idea if this is just some case like when a bunch of People all around the Globe Invent the Same Thing at about the Same Time for some Reason completely independently, or if they go around and look for ideas. Would be Cool either way, and if Gavin or Dan ever gets to come across this and Read this, greetings; but i kind of doubt that, because as far as i know, they record a Bunch of Videos In Advance and just release them over a fairly long time span, having a lot of Videos just Ready for Release laying around somewhere. So this could easily have been recorded even before we where Talking about it here or around the same time, but i am not sure, if they still do it like this, or if they now have a other workstyle/ Workflow. And i also have not been following their work and Videos too closely lately, so i wouldnt know.
 .
But as i guessed, that was very much

[...] worth reshooting in a Proper setting with good Lights and more Time Put into it than the 90 Minutes i used here. will for sure make for some Interresting Looking Footage. [...]

 .
I am also fairly impressed how much of whats going on there is already kind of visible in the Low-Effort Shots with the Chronos i did post here. Of course not even a contest with that Beast of a Camera they are using there, just completely different world of Framerate and Resolution.
Also Impressed to see how Fast the Hull is actually going there (120mph), and after seeing that, i will say that you most certainly dont want to get that thing or any of the Smaller glowing, red hot bits of Metal or other Fragments in your Eyes. Like i already said above, the Small ones would probably at least hurt a Fair bit from Some Distance on your Bare Skin, but would for sure permanently damage your Eyesight or even have you loose an eye on a direct hit from close Range.
 .
 .
Regards Cats, i mean it would be quite naive to assume anything online is real and no video ever was staged, cause nobody ever did that...
But to say that straight up all of these are just completely fake would also go a bit far.
Now i Personally do not have a cat, hence the Request, cant even shoot that myself due to lack of cat, but have seen pets including cats do wild stuff.
Getting that on Camera is a whole other challenge for sure, but i mean the camera has a Ring Buffer and a Post-Record-Trigger, so you could essentially just set it up, leave it running for half a day or longer if you liked to do so with a Power Supply, and eventually Trigger once anything happens.
Also, some pets are just too calm for that maybe, idk, never had one, just seemd like something fun to shoot without any further knowledge about the Subject from my Side.

Latest version is 0.7.2, seems like you are using 0.7.1 still.
Not sure, if that will fix the issues, or change anything about the problems you are having at all, but worth a try, and usually wouldnt hurt upgrading anyways.
