Chronos User Discussion / Re: Speedbooster with Focus Ring
« on: February 24, 2022, 05:46:39 AM »
Any rings on Speedboosters from Metabones are to adjust aperture of (like the Name of the Adapter Implies...) G-Style Nikon F-Mount Lenses, which do not have a Dedicated Aperture Ring, and rely on the Adapter or the Camera to Set the Aperture.
To adjust the Focus of a Speedbooster, there is usually a small Screw somewhere near the Camera Side of the Adapter (MFT-Mount), which can be loosened to adjust the Optical element in the Speedbooster, at least for the Nikon-Versions of the Speedboosters.
This Adjustment is however only recommended if you actually need to do that, and know what you are doing. Other Focus Adjustment on the Speedboosters is not Intended By Design.

that actually seems Promising.

So if i understand correctly, this would be what you want? [Attachment]

Do you trigger with an external Mechanical Switch or some kind output from any other device?
In that case, i think i can come up with something, otherwise, i would not know how to do that.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Segmented mode, I don't get it...
« on: February 15, 2022, 12:15:50 PM »
Have you tried going into "Record Settings", Then "Record Mode", Set Record Mode to "Normal" and "Record Length (frames)" to the needed/ Wanted Number of frames (Probably set it to ~30 Frames if you try to Record EXACTLY 20 Frames, which you actually need, as saving a Precise Number of Selected Frames is not the Cameras Strength, and you usually want to set it like 8 to 15 Frames Higher than what you actually need, to be sure to get what you need). Then Set Trigger Delay to 1000 (or exactly whatever you set the Other one to) Frames Post-Trigger.
This should work in a way, that you still have to start the Recording like usual to the Ring Buffer, but then, after Trigger is Pressed, the Camera will Record exactly 1000 Frames and then Stop.
If that is the Goal, to only record a 1000 Frames ONCE, that should work.
 .
However, the Same should still also work for Segmented Mode, when the Option "disable ringbuffer" is not checked, Record Length (frames) is set to 1000 frames, Segments set to 1, and Trigger Delay set to 1000 Frames Post-Trigger.
This Should from What i understand still give the Same Result, you need to start recording into the Ring buffer as usual, but once you then give the camera a Trigger Signal, it should record 1000 Frames after the Trigger Event and then Stop Recording.
 .
Hope this helps. Also Remember to go back into the Record Mode Menu and reset the Record Length to "Max" once you are done with that, otherwise you might end up with some surprises when you try to use the camera "normally" next time for General Filmmaking and forget, you limited the Record time to a Small Fraction of Memory (Happened to me, and took my some time to realize).
 .
EDIT: ofc. not start 1000 frames after Trigger Event its *record* (changed in the Text above)

General high-speed discussion / Re: Rolling shutter Problem
« on: February 15, 2022, 05:49:30 AM »
Can you elaborate on who noticed what, or provide any Footage Examples?
Would Having a Global Shutter in a Camera be a drawback for you, and if so, how? or What exactly do you mean?
The Chronos Cameras use a Global Shutter, the Vast Majority of all the Other Cameras that can Capture Video Digitally do use Rolling Shutter.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: SSD gets 60fps while saving.
« on: February 14, 2022, 05:59:28 AM »
[...] At smaller resolutions this can go as high as 250fps before the h.264 video encoder starts to drop frames, so the the software limits the video port to 230fps at all resolutions when saving. [...]

Depends a lot on resolution. Also, guessing from the Rate you are Saving Frames at, and assuming 1000fps would mean full Resolution 1920x1080 Shots from the 2.1; you are saving compressed h.264 Format. For H.264 there is hardly any difference in Save speed, as the Main "Bottleneck" in this case is the Cameras Processing power and other things pure Connection Speed cant make up for.
Things will look quite a bit different if you try to save High Resolution DNG Format Shots to SD and SSD Memory. Try shooting Something in Full 1920x1080 Resolution (Framerate this Footage is Captured at does actually not affect much in this case, 100 Frames will Still be 100 Frames to Save, no matter in which amount of Time The Camera Recorded those), and Save the Same Length clip in DNG Format to SSD and SD card, then compare how long it took to finish. Thats where you get a Benefit from using SSD Storage, apart from the Bigger Memory Size on a single Disk. For H.264 there is actually not much of a reason to bother with SSDs.
 .
As i already tried to explain here:
 https://forum.krontech.ca/index.php?topic=737.msg5071#msg5071
The Camera is actually ready to Shoot out of the Box (apart from missing a Lens and a Way to mount that to it still), and for very Basic operation to just get Footage, its fine to save in H.264 and use SD Cards, as Saving Compressed Footage is a lot faster, and its just about as fast to save that to SD card.
Anyone using this Camera Professionally and trying to get the best possible Image Quality from it, would however usually want to use DNG Format, unless you cant afford the Additional Time, that will take to save.
And for DNG Footage, you will see a very Clear Difference in Save Speed from the SSD.

Apart from that weird color Flickering mid video which i dont know, where that would come from, that is pretty decent footage for your first shots with it!

Here is the Link to that btw., Only about HDMI though. Never specifically wrote much if any about the Ethernet here on the Forum, Issue mostly is that the Camera just will not Boot up, if Ethernet is Plugged in, like it tries to boot from Network, but cant find anything to actually boot from and then just waits.

If you can confirm, that the drive itself is working properly, try plugging it in, after the Camera is fully booted (Had Problems with both HDMI and Ethernet when something was plugged in before the Camera was booted, so i would not be Surprised, if something similar could happen with eSATA. Had no issues with that myself so far, but you can never know).
If that still does not work, i would try replacing that Cable, maybe that is broken (unless you have a way to test that, and make sure it works, like an PC that has a eSATAp Port somewhere to plug it in and Check).

I also cannot find anything on "change iso" which I would like to know how to.

ok, good to know you at least tried, might be hard to find.
you probably wont find anything on "ISO" as the Setting for Light Sensitivity on this camera is labeled as "Gain".
There Is a Analog Gain Setting and a Digital Gain Setting, both go from 0 to 24 dB in Steps of 6dB, where a 6dB step is about equivalent to a Full Exposure Stop (like doubling ISO number for example from 100 to 200 would be about same as 6dB more Gain). Doesnt perfectly line up always to give an Actual 1 Stop brighter Image though, so watch out for that.
0dB on Both would be native "ISO" / Base Gain, and both of those Settings add up to give the final Sensitivity.
Analog Gain does actually Raise some kind of Voltage (Hardware) on the Sensor or in the Signal Processing Pipeline that comes After to give a Brighter Image, Digital Gain does just Digitally amplify the Signal somewhere later down the Line, similar to what you would do in Editing when Raising Exposure.

General high-speed discussion / Re: Lens needed to film sports?
« on: February 09, 2022, 05:40:09 AM »
ha, that is fair!

So my checklist are:
SSD Drive
SSD Drive cable
Nikon > C-Mount

And thats actually it for the minimum to get videos onto disk right?
Depending on what option you choose when you order The Camera, it does actually already come with the Needed Adapter for either Canon or Nikon Mount to C-Mount and a Spacer to CS-Mount, one of both is always included.
The Adapter for Nikon Mount, that does come with the Camera however will not allow you to use Any Nikon Lenses that do not have an Dedicated Aperture Setting on the Lens itself, for that you would need to order a Adapter that can do that. The Included Adapter will work with any older Nikon Lens, that does still have such a setting on the Lens or Fully Manual Third Party Lenses with Nikon Mount.
 .
Regards SSDs, those are sure nice to have, but are not required to use the Camera. SSD Memory is faster to save Footage to, for some File Formats even very dramatically faster, but you can also just use any SD Card (Some of the new and Extremely Big ones and some UHS-II ones might not be Compatible with the Camera, but almost any usual SD Card or Micro-SD with an Adapter Will work with no problems) you probably already own, or can buy a lot cheaper than an SSD (also more Compact).
There is really nothing you would NEED a SSD for to use this Camera, it just makes Working with it faster, nothing else.
So if you want to save yourself some money, and are willing to wait a bit longer for it to save Footage to Memory, you can use Standard SD-Cards as Storage. I would still Recommend to buy some high Quality Name Brand ones, if the Footage you Intend to capture is of Any Importance, as SD-Cards can fail, especially cheap bad Quality ones.
 .
So given you own Compatible SD-Card(-s) and any Compatible Nikon Lens or C-Mount Lens, and order the Camera with the Nikon Adapter Option (included in the Price Anyways), the Camera is actually Ready to use out of the Box with nothing additionally needed.

Ahh ok, great. So its Lens > speed boaster > c-mount adaptor basically. Must more clear thank you!

Not Quite right. But almost.
While you can kind of do that, and Adapters for that do in Fact exist:
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeM7cTJuSm4
 https://rafcamera.com/adapter-mft-to-cs-mount
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxkxCpFMPfs
I would Highly recommend to use A Interchangeable Mount for the Chronos like a MFT-Mount, as that is just way more Reliable, mechanically Stable and User-Friendly.
Krontech offers one for sale, some users including me made their own Designs, and i also posted a bunch of Stuff on the Forum to either Build yourself one to 3D-Print (Parts for the Published Design are not available anymore, but you should be able to modify that to whatever Parts you can find on Ebay) or to Make a custom Spacer for the Metabones Speedbooster (posted in the Same Thread, but never finished Posting that one, only about half way done, will finish posting that, if anyone asks me to).

There are no Speedboosters with C-Mount. You need to go with MFT Mount on the Camera Side and Whatever fits the Lenses you plan on Mounting on the Other Side.
