Chronos User Discussion / Upgrading the 1.4 to the 2.1
« on: September 17, 2019, 08:15:23 AM »

I heard there was a plan for the 1.4 camera owners to be able to upgrade their camera to the 2.1 by some sort of a trade in policy. Is there any progress on this or is it just a myth?  What is the time frame and how much will it cost?

Software Dev / Can't fine the overlay feature
« on: November 25, 2018, 11:46:17 AM »

I've upgraded the firmware to v0.3.1 beta 9 but I cannot fine the overlay feature to add the time onto the video clip.  I did skip the previous beta 4 version, do I have to do the upgrades in a particular sequence?  Thanks,

Doug

Chronos User Discussion / Protecting the Chronos
« on: July 03, 2018, 10:07:45 AM »
I use the Chronos cameras to record the liftoff of rockets so naturally the camera needs to be protected.  In one case the rocket passes just inches away from the camera so not only does the camera have to be protected from the heat and flame of the rocket motor but the protection must also allow for the camera to be cooled.   The camera must operate in environments that are dusty and at temperatures of 105F/40C for about 10 hours in the desert.

I used a Hammond enclosure 1590EE (https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/hammond-manufacturing/1590EE/HM441-ND/2627894) that happens to be the perfect size for the Chronos and the camera is mounted to the lid with 25mm standoffs.  To allow for cooling, I drilled holes in one end of the enclosure and used a regular dust mask as the inlet filter.  It tuns out that the paper filers could not withstand the differential pressure and blew out so I will have to change the filter material for the next launch.  I made an exhaust duct for the fan with a 3D printer and used penetrations in the cover that allowed for external power and the trigger signal.  Although the enclosure is not sealed, I did seal up the lens opening with Silicone glue to prevent the corrosive gasses from entering the camera.  The lens was protected with a UV filter and is cleaned between launches.

I was concerned about adequate cooling but the camera never overheated or failed to record the launches and the inside of the box remained clean.

Chronos User Discussion / Test Video issues
« on: June 10, 2018, 09:04:28 PM »

I ran a test video today with a custom resolution and frame rate (not built in).  During recording and on playback the video shows flashes of light like it did not record properly.  THey might be frames that were not recorded correctly.  Can anyone tell me how to prevent this?

Software Dev / Frame sequencing issue?
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:06:37 PM »
I'm using the Chronos to record events from the trigger, i.e. no pre-triggered frames are recorded, and yet on the video there are a two frames at the beginning of the clip that are from the end of the video.  I am wanting to know the time from the trigger things are happening and I do not know if I should ignore these frames or include them when counting frames from the beginning of the video clip.  Any thoughts?

Chronos User Discussion / Minimum RAM required?
« on: February 10, 2018, 02:48:12 PM »
I just tried two different manufactures of 4GB RAM with I believe are the same specs on the memory that comes with the units without success.  I wanted to record just a couple of seconds and save the entire file automatically.  Everything seems fine until I push the record button and then the image really goes to crap; colors are wrong and some of the image is frozen while other places are still live.  Once I stop recording the bad image remains even if during playback.  I did not try to save the files.  If I power down the unit and restart, all is fine again until starting to record.

Any suggestions on which RAM to use in the 4GB size?

Chronos User Discussion / Triggered Exposure Mode
« on: October 08, 2017, 03:06:09 PM »
I've been testing the Triggered Exposure Mode and it does not seem to work as I expected.  I send in square wave (50% duty cycle) trigger pulse and it appears to change the frame rate but the frame rate shown on the screen is whatever the Common preset resolutions happens to be set at (1057 fps at 1280x1024).  Setting the frame rate to 30 fps seems to make the camera operate at that frame rate based on file size but the automatic exposure does not seem to work.  You can still adjust the shutter speed with the slide bar and adjusting the lens aperture changes the brightness.

The manual states in this mode " the exposure duration is controlled by the camera" so I expected the camera to adjust shutter speed automatically.  Is this mode not working yet?

Also, the microphone is not working either, no sound is recorded.  Is this also on the 'to do' list?

Chronos User Discussion / Aux IO connector

I was hoping someone could confirm that this is the mating connector for the Aux IO port:

Is there other connectors being used?  Thanks,

Chronos User Discussion / Triggering two cameras
« on: August 01, 2017, 12:02:43 PM »
Is there any problem triggering two Chronos cameras using a single trigger going into a BNC splitter that is connected to two cameras?  Something like this with appropriate cables to the cameras
https://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-294114-BNC-T-adapter-splitter/dp/B000V1LX6S
If the cameras are set up with the same triggering delays, with the two cameras be synchronized?

Chronos User Discussion / Mechanical Drawing

Is there a Mechanical Drawing available?  I have not received my camera and it would be helpful if i had a drawing of the camera to get me started.
