You could also get a couple of 12V lead acid batteries or a 24V lead acid and use a buck converter to drop the voltage down to proper charging voltage if you are the kind of person that goes in for that kind of handy project. Could be as large as car batteries with over 1000 watt/hrs.

Funny you mention that, I grabbed a car charger from amazon to get extended battery life thanks to spare car battery I already had. It's not fun to carry around but its a lot nicer than a generator or 10m^2 of solar panels.

I have several USB sticks (all sandisk) and only one of them works for updating but all of them work for saving video. Maybe try another stick and see if that works.

Every time updated my Chronos I would take out the OS SD card and make an .img file, that way I could always restore an image if I broke something. If you can't get your camera to update you could use one of my backup .img files, write it to a microsd card and put it in your camera, then you would have the up to date software. You would also have to restore your calibration data because my backups contain my calibration.

If you want I can send you an image of my updated SD card. You would need to restore your callibration data (mine is part of the SD image). It's ~700mb but I think Google drive will share stuff that big.

Are you using the same usb stick that you had for previous updates? I have found that only out of the pile I own will work for updates even though they all work for backing up callibration and saving video.

It is really freakingly hard to film flying birds...

If you want to film birds I _really_ suggest getting a gun sight and mounting it on top of your Chronos. Before shooting you have to align it with some object at the same distance as you expect to be filming and then you are set. I have used it to get frame-filling video of birds in flight, taking off and landing.

I'm going to be at the Toronto Maker Festival this year so I have been compacting my demos for travel. I build a mini-ribbon speaker and it does some seriously weird stuff when over driven. The video shows both real time and Chrono-vision.

Yeah, its a 400mm f6.3 non-telephoto lens. Being f6.3 makes it only good for very bright sunlight but it is not heavy compared to telephoto lenses so I always keep it in my kit.

Sounds very interesting. Can you show us what you made there?

The reflex sight is an Amazon special, not the cheapest one but it's not made for a real gun. To mount it I drilled a 1/4" hole in "gun rail" which is used for mounting hardware on to guns, and ground down a 1/4-20 screw to sit as flush as possible with the top of the rail. If the head sticks up too far the sight won't mount properly. There are kits that let you mount gun rail to a hot shoe (camera flash mount) and kits that let you mount a hot shoe to a 1/4-20 hole but the taller your mounting setup the more parallax error you will get and the less stable it will all be.

Every time I shoot the sight has to be adjusted, it moves a little while being transported but mostly it's to account for the range of distances I am shooting that day. By picking a spot midway through the field and centering on that it is pretty accurate as long as I remember to aim high for close subjects and low for distant ones. If you are going to film fast moving subjects it is worth the $30.

It was an overcast day and I forgot to do a black cal after the camera had warmed up but having a gun sight on the camera makes following a target super easy! Blue-jays, vultures and a coyote.
