Software Dev / Re: Chronos V0.6.0 Full Release

The linked instructions say that special factory calibration files are no longer needed for both the 1.4 and the 2.1, while the first post here only mentions the 2.1 – can anyone please clear this up? Can the 1.4 generate it's calibration entirely on its own or is this limited to the 2.1?
Also, as the update currently cant be done "in place" but requires an SD-Card update, is the existing "factory" calibration data still relevant ion some way (like providing better results?)

Thats right - the 1.4 generate its calibration internally - only the 2.1 needed their own factory data. For a new calibration both cameras need te same process now.

A little comparison between 1.4 and 2.1 - both with V0.6.0
Outdoors, no clouds.
Framerates: 17391 (1.4) and 16191 (2.1) recorded as TIFF

In my opinion the 1.4 picture looks well - the 2.1 picture is very flat....

I also noticed some Horizontal "Banding" (or whatever one would call that?) when Overexposed Areas are In Frame right next to dark areas. Dont remember them to be this visible in the Last Version, but will double Check, if i find time for that. I also dont really know, if this is just a Flaw of the Sensor itself, or if this is a software thing. Still way more organic looking than the Vertical Lines from the Last version, but if this could be improoved would sure be neat. Here is two DNGs in a .Zip, from me trying to reproduce this Banding.
 .
#EDIT#: Forgot to put the Settings that this was shot at here: 35mm 2.8 Russian Lens, 12dB gain, 359° 1kfps

I can confirm this. In addition, i made another observation - if the white areas decline at 50 IRE it looks like they get pink....

Did some tests and also a comparison between 2.1 and 1.4 with the new version 6.0 and the vertical banding is nearly dissapeared.

At the moment the 2.1 needs much more light than the 1.4 and there is somting strange with the video signal level (tested with an external monitor portkeys BM5II). Its not possible to get a video level more than 90 IRE and at lower resolutions the level declines at 30 IRE @ 640x360.

On the other hand the 1.4 allowed a level to 100 IRE and with the same lens and at the same time the level was at 55 IRE @ 640x360.

it seems, that the new software reduces the dynamic range a lot, so that it isnt possible to use the full video level from 100 IRE.

Has someone made a similar observation?

I would like to put a speedbooter too.
Do you have any tips to remove the CS steel ring without damaging the sensor, did you use a special tool?

Its realy easy to remove it: Unscrew the little hexagonal socket screw at the bottom of the camera (its also for adjusting the flange back) - remove the scew and the little metal pin. Then you are able to unscrew and remove the steel ring.

Thanks for this update!!

One question to calibrate the camera - is it necessary to use a lense cap in step 1 too?

23
What i mean is, that there is not enough light, the aperture has to be completely opened (for example f2.8) and despite the open aperture, the maximum signal level is too low (<0,7V)

24
The difference is hardly noticeable .....

From my experience the problem occurs at a lower aperture - its possible to try it with f2.8?

I use a pair of Godox SL150W with Apture Fresnel attachments and one Godox SL150WII

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Why the vertical color bands
« on: December 31, 2020, 12:37:13 AM »
I did some tests with a colour chart and several resolutions.

Setup: Chronos 2.1, software: unstable 20201125, Kamlan 50mm, aperture 1.1 (ful open), colour temp 5.600k, saved as TIFF

Room temperature: 21 degrees Celsius
Maximum camera temperature after 30 minutes warmup: system 47.2 degrees, sensor 46 degrees
Black calibration before the first shot and after changing the resolution
One shot was taken with 25% signal level - the other with 80 % - no colour grading

Hi, I use Davinci Reseolve 16.
It needs for an imported picture sequence
20 seconds tiff (1000 frames 640x360)  to 1920x1080 50p h264 mp4: 14 seconds
20 seconds dng (1000 frames 1027x576) to 1920x1080 50p h264 mp4: 23 seconds

I5, 32GB RAM, NVIDA 2060S 8GB

Hope this helps  ;)

I did a few tests based on your table and get same results at higher gains.

Ok - I did some tests: Camera with connected  SSD and external monitor (Feelworld Lut7). Both connected to the V-Mont Converter and it works without any problems for several hours  ;D

How many volts do you give to the 14.4 camera?

The 1.4 and 2.1 needs 17 to 20V. The Globalmediapro converter supplies 19V/2A from a  standard 14.8V V-mount battery pack.
