Software Dev / Re: Updating the UI: Record Settings Edition

I prefer version A mainly because it's more clear, version B is more cluttered.

Definitely version C :)

What would be awesome is to be able to chose which buttons are assigned to which functions (like top button 1 = ... top button 2 = ..., etc...).

I like your version ;)

Maybe the camera needs some sort of temperature control by varying the fan speed?

The fan speed is already variable and controlled by the camera.

Is there a workaround you can suggest? If I taped up the ventilation holes would that be safe?

I can recall David recommending another member to do exactly that so it should be safe (maybe don't cover all the holes though).

I think a good compromise would be to move the slider at the bottom (so horizontal) with the two arrow buttons aligned with it at the bottom right (and the other buttons as they currently are on the right).

Pinch to zoom and drag to move would be awesome (especially to set the focus more easily) :)

I'm not entirely sure the interface should be designed to be one-handed at all. Playing around with it, trying to use the interface when I'm just holding the camera unsupported in my right hand, I have serious difficulty interacting with the thing. It's pretty hefty.  I need it propped up by my left hand, or screwed onto a tripod or something before I can use it. In both cases, I can pretty easily access the bottom few centimeters of the screen.

Yep, to me what you want is to be able to hold the camera with the right hand and use the UI with the left hand, you just can't use one hand to do both (and I would not want to anyway: too high risk to drop the camera...). Which now that I think about it means the buttons should be on the left, not the right; but when on a tripod we may want the buttons on the right as most of us are right-handed... maybe a setting to choose between the two options?

Should be 1/3 stop.

Mine is very hard to pull (can't use only my fingers) but the battery doesn't rub on the compartment, it's the connector who has a high insertion force.

Maybe some compartments are misaligned with the PCB? (seems unlikely though).

I found a focus chart helps a lot, you just adjust the focus until the gray circle is the smallest possible (the less blur you have the less the lines are mixing with each other (making some gray color) so as the lines are finer and finer towards the center it forms a circle which is the smallest when the focus is best) so even with low light and a small screen you can do a pretty good job very fast.

Maybe it's the battery which it's out of tolerance. I guess there's specs for all of this so we can measure the camera and battery and see which one didn't follow the specs.

Software Dev / Re: Speed boost to 38k fps?

Yes, if you set a lower resolution you can go up to this FPS (and I'm sure as I tested it just to see the obscene level of light it needs...) ;)

You don't need to change the file to go to this FPS, but you can if you want to put this FPS as an option in the list of course.

You've probably already tried but did you try to reboot the camera?

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Recording Under IR illumination?

It has an IR filter but it can be removed. As this involve tearing down the camera I'll let David post the details (unless it's already in the manual, I can't remember).

Yep, software limit it to whatever the export limit is and then those who want to go higher just need to change a value or two in a config/header/whatever file and maybe re-compile the thing if the change isn't in a config file.

« on: October 21, 2017, 08:18:01 AM »
I don't think you can trigger the start of the recording and let it stop when out of RAM because usually you just record in a loop and stop the recording after the event occurred, that's how pretty much how all hi-speed cams work.

But, as already said by David, you can use your start signal to stop the recording and set a 400 ms delay (in frames, so, for example, if you shoot at 2000 fps you need to set it to 800 frames to record 400 ms) which will basically do exactly what you want (record 400 ms after the start signal) ;)

It's already available, see page 11 and 12 of the manual http://www.krontech.ca/uploads/9/3/8/3/93836312/chronos_1.4_user_manual_rev_3.pdf ;)
