I was really surprised how well this weeks Chronos footage compares to our previous Smashinator videos that were filmed with +200 000€ Phantom setup. https://youtu.be/MYoBkIzkH1k

Sure it's bit nicer and with high frame rate but on Youtube use especially framerates bellow 3000fps are pretty damn nice.

Nice to see you around here!
I always wondered, do you use the Chronos "Kit"-Lens for all your shots or did you ever try using any other Lenses?
I dont have that same Model of the Kit lens but an much older, similar Lens and i find it not to give good image Quality, even stoped down.
Maybe this newer Version of the Lens is much better, but i would guess that there are still a lot of lenses with better image Quality than this kit Lens.
So it would be interresting if you ever looked into the whole thing about Lenses, because sometimes Lenses could make quite a difference in image Quality.
From your red hot [things] Videos i would assume, that you have a TON of Light when you are Filming those.

I think I should try out prime lenses that I have now here for the cameras if there is a difference. But in general we need zoom lenses on all cameras when we film since we don't have much time to use per one video, safety things also dictate camera placement and with high speed cameras the changing resolution makes things also bit hard. I try to always stay over 2 aperture since I think under that picture comes out always bit soft.

The point i tried to make is not about Zoom lenses vs Prime Lenses. Its not like it would be a crime to use a Zoom Lens or something  :)
If you need to use A Zoom that is fine.
What i Wanted to say is that there are a lot Better Options even for Zoom Lenses, and i was just curios if you ever tryed someting else than the "Kit Lens".
The 12,5-75mm kit lens is a pretty reasonable Preformer for the Price an Size of the Lens but is still a fairly low-End Lens qualitywise.
.
If you must have Zoom then maybe check out Lenses Like the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 or the 50-100mm f/1.8. Also, maybe a 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8. Those are realy good Lenses, there are a lot of different ones on the Market and you could get some older model (without Autofocus) for quite good price.
Keep in mind that you could pair all of those Lenses mentioned above with a speedbooster like a Nikon-F to MFT one. Those Lenses should give you an Optical performance very close to an Prime Lens.
.
If you want to go with only one lens, then have a look into ENG Lenses , for example B4-Mount Those tend to have MASSIVE Zoom Range, sometimes up to 20x or even more, Aperture up to f/1.6 for the full Zoom Range and Built in Macro and can be found for high resolution Cameras. Sensor Size of the Chronos is perfect for those Lenses.
.
If you could afford changing lenses more often, Prime Lenses are also a serious option, because you could get smaller and sometimes cheaper lenses which still perform very well.
.
But most good stuff costs good Money...
If you just want to test out Lenses, then here a quick tip:
Visit a camera Store, pretend you want to buy something but want to test it bevore.
If you REALY like it, you could buy it, but you could always say you have to think about it and just leave without buying anything.
But get yourself a adapter for the Lenses you want to test BEVORE you go to test them, because the usualy dont have such adapters in the Stores!

Have you ever tried to use Backlight with something like this?
I mean place your Light behind at an similar Angle, but at the Back of whatever you are filming, or something like that.
Should give this Shot even more depth in my opinion.
If your scene gets to dark at the front (camera side), try using an Reflector or additional Lamp, to get your Frontlight to an less extreme Lighting Ratio. If you dont have an other light or reflector, Aluminum Foil or alike on some rigid Cardboard with some Tape should do great!
Just an idea /tip from my side.
If you place your light very near to the camera it looks extremely flat, like some cheap compact-Camera Flash.
If you place it at an angle, off camera its already much better.
If you use Backlighting and maybe even also fill-Light from the other side of your Main Light (as seen from camera - Other side), it looks realy good for the most time, if done right even epic.
If you dont have enough actual Lights, try working with reflectors or something similar like the Aluminium foil mentioned bevore or just some Big sheets of white paper if you want even softer Light.

Somewhat strange Audio on the Soda Video, the original sounds seem to be only hearable on the left? and the music is kind of dominant on the right side?
Otherwise Very nice Overall Editing on those Two Videos, keep it up! Also Very nice Audio on that slow-Motion part of the second video. Is that the original thing slowed down or is there some kind of sound design going on? Really want to know that, it sounds good.

Yeah, I messed up the sound on the soda video...
The jointer slow mo sounds are total fabrications.  I used a guy on fiverr to create a single sound clip for each kind of blade hit,  then took some time to add the clip to every blade hit.

Ok, well done then, sounds quite beliveable and adds a lot to the slowmo itself!

My penultimate video from my video session from earlier this summer.
I hope I can get a higher quality out of the chronos and the other cameras in my next video session...

@Nikon1: Thx for the lighting tips. I'll try to use them in my next shooting session. :)
