Filming in black and white with Chronos 1.4 color version
« on: July 28, 2020, 02:42:20 PM »
Is it possible to have the Chronos 1.4 color version film in black and white by adjusting a setting on the camera itself?  Yes, I understand that the color version doesn't have quite the sensitivity or resolution as the monochrome version, just wondering if it is possible.

You could probably change the color in black and white in a video editor? It be cool if they can do it in camera though.

There is no in-camera option for this.
I cant speak for Krontech but personally I think there won't be such a feature anytime soon. – The Monochrome Version of the cam exists already and there's enough software solutions out there to convert color Video/images to monochrome if really needed.

Not sure without trying it but you might be able to go into the Custom Color Matrix menu and alter settings there. Otherwise software strip the color.

Is there a guide anywhere how the Color Matrix works? I mean what to set to get which result and so on... some explaination of sorts?

Also to answer the original Question:
Just turn down the Color Saturation in you editing software all the Way, and you end up with a image that will only have brightnes Values, no color, basically black and white (Greyscale). If you then also want to make it look like some Black and white Film or an old B&W Movie, turn up the Contrast also. For more advanced Contrast adjustments use Color Curves. As NiNeff Allready said, there is no real reason to be able to do that in camera on the Chronos. For sure, most Smartphones and consumer Cameras would propably have the option for some B&W mode, but thats mostly just one of a bunch of fancy filters... Easiest way to do it on hardware (except you find an simple solution to make it work with the Color Matrix) would maybe be to get some HDMI Monitor or Recorder/Monitor which will allow for preview with LUTs applied. There are some, that can do this, but they are usualy not the cheapest. then just find a LUT or make on yourself, which makes your Color image into a Black and White one with the preferred Contrasts. The Camera will however still record in color and you would need to apply that same LUT later onto your files, but this would allow for a Real-Time Preview from the Camera in Black and White if this is something you need.

Found a way to do it in camera btw:
Go into the Color Matrix and set EVERY of the Nine Values at the Same Number, for example "1"
This will give you an In-Camera Black and White Effect on an Color Model Chronos 1.4 or 2.1
