[ But just for info ... u have a damn highspeed camera so just increase the fps instead of fakepunsh frames with interpolation ;p ])
Right, if you realy need more FPS, just Lower your resolution, its not that bad.
I used the 400fps 800x288px Mode on My Nikon J5 even for production once.
The Chronos can do way more. That is already an insanely good camera itself.
Depends on what you want to capture, tho.
But for most stuff (cinema/ Movies) 1500fps is more than enough if you need high quality also.
If you realy have some Shots that require much more fps at high quality, consider Renting a High-End Highspeed-Camera somewhere. Its not that expensive, if you work on an movie or serious project, or someting Like that.
Still cheaper than buying one.
If its just for personal use, than its maybe a bit expensive. especialy because you need lots of accessorys, which you would already most likely have somewhere around in an professional enviroment.
.
Keep in mind, even if you would manage to overclock your chronos to someting like 3000fps at 720p, for example, it will not look that much slower as you might think.
You will need way higher framerates to make it "feel" noticable slower.
I think you wouldnt even be able to tell the difference between 1500fps and 1750fps if the clips would not be shown side-by-side.

I dont think, it is possible from reading that topic here:
http://forum.krontech.ca/index.php?topic=94.msg805#msg805
But i am not a specialist, so i could be wrong.
If you just need slower Looking Footage, try Frame-Interpolation-Software like Twixtor.
That will give you up to 3 or 5 times slower Footage without looking bad. Can give You realy Smooth results.
If you dont have a lot of stuff going on in your Frame, you could get away with that. If you have a very Detailed Background and Lots of Stuf flying around for Example, you will run into Problems most likely.
.
If you need actual Frames from the Camera, on the other Side, you probably would have to lower your Resolution.
The only "trick" i could think of is anamorphic lenses. Those could give you double Framerate, while not loosing too much resolution.
If you use a 2x Anamorphic Lens you could, for example set your Resolution to 1280x360px and stretch it to 1280x720 in software. Since the Chronos does not realy care that much about horizontal resolution, when it comes to Frame-Rate, you could increase your maximum Framerate by Quite a bit. While this will give you a lot more Pixels in theory vs. shooting at that same Framerate at 640*360px (16:9@360px Vertical Resolution) Resolution, your results Will also depend Heavyly on the Anamorphic lens and The Taking Lens used for that.
With that trick, you could even use the Full sensor with an anamorpic lens and stretch your 1024*1280px (Filmed Vertical) to 2048*1280, which is even beyond Full HD.
But keep in mind, Anamorphic Lenses are a Tricky Topic on its own and can get Bulky and expensive quickly. If you realy need it and could get around its Limitations, it is a thing might worth thinking about.
.
Might look at Schneider Cinelux Lenses, those are known to be realy Sharp and can be found quite affordable sometimes. And i guess you probably wonīt do crazy focus pulls combined with Slow-Motion all the time anyways, so the aditional time for Focusing both Lenses should not bee too much of a problem.  :)

Chronos User Discussion / Re: No storage devices detected?
« on: May 31, 2018, 07:18:48 AM »
Went to do some high-speed video the other day only to find that I couldn't save to the SD card!  I got the "No save location set" message and when I went to try to correct that, I get a "No storage devices detected" message.  Tried plugging a thumb drive into the side as well, but no joy.  Running 2.5 beta firmware.  Am I missing something simple or is there a problem?
I cant answer that for sure, but in an other thread i have seen someone have a similar Problem. Reformating solved this. Maybe look it up in the Forum for details, i dont know anymore, where that was.

Hi Nikon1,

I used the Fujian Prime lens from the store and a Back-Bone Computar 1/2″ 8-48mm F1.2 6X Zoom C-Mount Lens. It produces that vignetting if it is fully zoomed.
Hadn't enough space between action and camera so that i couldn't zoom in to see no vignetting...

Until now I have not found a solution to get rid of that problem :(
I did just remember that i had a 0,5x Wide-Angle-Converter lying around. i just tried it, and it would work great with the 12,5-75mm and the Chronos.
Pictuers attached to that post. Also pictures of the Converter itself.

Shot on the Nikon J5. The Red Frame Shows the Chronos-Sensor-Size.
Both Shot @ 12.5mm. The one With Converter is unfortunately out of focus by a little bit.
I dont think, that this will give you a real 6mm Focal length, but it makes the Lens quite a bit wider, while almost not vignetting.
For 16:9 it should be no problem at all.
.
Since i dont use it and since it would also most likely be not worth the effort to trying to sell that thing, i can offer to send it to you for free if you like it.

:EDIT: BTW: Nice Colors on those HIghspeed-Shots. TBH the first clip filmed on a chronos (which i have seen at least) where i realy like the colors and find them realistic. Did you do any fancy Editing Magic on that or is it just straight out of camera? :EDIT:
Hi Nikon1,

I used the Fujian Prime lens from the store and a Back-Bone Computar 1/2″ 8-48mm F1.2 6X Zoom C-Mount Lens. It produces that vignetting if it is zoomed out.
Hadn't enough space between action and camera so that i couldn't zoom in to see no vignetting...

Ok, now that makes sense. I was wondering, if the 12,5-75mm Standard-Lens would vignett so badly on the Chronos...
But if that is just a 1/2" Lens, than this makes much more sense.
The only thing i know of, that would be realy wide and also "affordable" @230€ is this lens:
https://www.amazon.com/Azure-Photonics-AZURE-0614MLM-C-Mount-Megapixel/dp/B00OBMUSUK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Amazon and B&H are the only places i have found it yet for sale.
But i dont know if B&H ships their stuff to Germany.
Have never seen one sold used.
Should cover 1" completely while not beeing Fisheye.
I donīt have this Lens Yet, but that will be one of the next Lenses to get for my Nikon1 J5.
Or maybe try a Wide-Angle-Converter (Like 0,8x or 0,6x) and combine it with the 12,5-75.

Hi everyone,

had some fun with my longsword. Btw. first video in english language. Hope it is not too tough to understand :D

Some of those highspeed-clips have heavy vignetting on them. Which Lens were those filmed on?

Yeah, its a 400mm f6.3 non-telephoto lens. Being f6.3 makes it only good for very bright sunlight but it is not heavy compared to telephoto lenses so I always keep it in my kit.
Ok, for that kind of Focal Length on that small Sensor, you would propably want a gun sight.
Would be kind of difficult without i guess.
Thanks for the reply.

having a gun sight on the camera makes following a target super easy!

Sounds very interesting. Can you show us what you made there?

The reflex sight is an Amazon special, not the cheapest one but it's not made for a real gun. To mount it I drilled a 1/4" hole in "gun rail" which is used for mounting hardware on to guns, and ground down a 1/4-20 screw to sit as flush as possible with the top of the rail. If the head sticks up too far the sight won't mount properly. There are kits that let you mount gun rail to a hot shoe (camera flash mount) and kits that let you mount a hot shoe to a 1/4-20 hole but the taller your mounting setup the more parallax error you will get and the less stable it will all be.

Every time I shoot the sight has to be adjusted, it moves a little while being transported but mostly it's to account for the range of distances I am shooting that day. By picking a spot midway through the field and centering on that it is pretty accurate as long as I remember to aim high for close subjects and low for distant ones. If you are going to film fast moving subjects it is worth the $30.
What Lens is That?
Looks like 400mm or so?

Wow, thanks a lot for that quick answer.

Besides of that it looks good to me.

can someone please update his chronos and take a Quick Shot of something with some different colors in frame?
Just the Same Shot with same Settings bevore and after Software Update.
I would just realy like to see how much better colors became with this release, but cant test it on my own because i have no chronos yet.
I never realy liked the colors of Footage from the chronos, but i think colors should be much better now.
