It is really freakingly hard to film flying birds...
however I managed to get one half-decent shot:
https://youtu.be/o6WquZ96vUo

I cant wait for external monitor and zooming in software, it should make focusing much easier.
Also: I'ts great that you can do such shots without any prep at all. I just went outside and pointed the cam at the next best flying thing. Those birds are fast! I had no time to setup focus and aperture.

Do you have some kinds of hidden boot partitions or something like that? also did you try to only use one partition? does the drive show up on other devices?

Awesome, I will be testing the upgradeprocess later today and maybe shoot a few quick sampolevideos. Can't wait for 0.4 though ;)

i think callign it "advanced options" instead of "detailed view" would be less confusing, since you're not chaning viewing options.

Software Dev / Re: Updating the UI: Main Screen Edition

Definitively Version 8 over 7!
I also like the clear battery icon, you can see at one glance what it means and how full the battery is.
Not cluttering the screen with buttons is also a good idea. If someone wants them they can configure and add their own, and everything is packed neatly into their own menues where it belongs.
However this needs to be finely balanced, Too little buttons has you searching for vital settings over and over again while too much is just confusing and reducing the screenspace for the video preview. Therefore a small default with custom additions would be a great solution for almost all usecases.

Both look good, just keep the first one as a basic one and add an "advanced" button which leads to the second one for these nasty engeneers ;D

Looks great so far. Can we also please get an audible alarm on low battery? I know there's a speaker in the chronos.  ;)

Your footage is amazing! Did you follow the first rocket manually or do you have a jig with some kind of actuator that pans the camera?

Thanks, the cameras pitch automatically based on the rockets acceleration and liftoff is detected with a switch on the rail.

Doug
Great footage! Could you please post a picture of your pitching system? It sounds interesting!

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Dark video relative to live display
« on: June 30, 2018, 08:14:04 AM »
As far as I know, the video displayed on the screen is the unencoded data directly from the RAM buffer.
The h.264 encoding done to store the non-raw data is a lossy compression, and therefore can't look exactly like the original.

Nice! I'm planning to do similar shots but could not be bothered to set them up yet. Also those insects are fast!

Awesome, updated just fine and all the features are there. Only weird thing I could see is under "About" it still says RC1, made me do a double take after the update. Thanks for features and fixes!
Same here.
This was actually the first update which completed on it's own ;)

This is a known bug in the 0.3RC1 software, if you are using it:
RC1 known bugs:
-On some cameras, a small number of recorded frames are corrupted (about 1 in every few thousand). Most cameras do seem to exhibit this problem. Fix is in progress, this post will be updated when a fix is available.

Here's a quick and dirty way to do it in post using ffmpeg stolen from another thread:
Yeah, the first thing I do with the files is use FFMPEG to slow the play rate from 60fps to 30fps, and also to add a time marker to each frame.  For example, here's the command to do that on a 640x120 clip (17424 being the fps):
Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -i ChronosFile1.mp4 -r 30
 -vf "setpts=(2/1)*PTS,
 drawtext=fontfile=Arial.ttf: expansion=normal:
   text='%{eif\:n*1000/17424\:d}.%{eif\:mod(n*1000/17424*100,100)\:d\:2}ms':
   x=(w-tw-5): y=5: fontcolor=white: box=1: boxcolor=0x00000099: fontsize=25"
 -an -y ChronosFile1Post.mp4

I also had this a few times and I found that it happens less if you don't put a memory card in before or during boot.
might be coincidental or confirmation bias though  ;)
