I found this video but it is a little different. He just rotates a mirror around the object.

So I discovered this company that makes a system to track projectiles in flight. But it costs $130k USD.

has anyone made something like this but affordable?

Chronos User Discussion / SmallRig Camera Cage
« on: December 07, 2021, 07:12:13 PM »
So it is thanks to Somosrobolt https://www.instagram.com/somosrobolt/ on IG he shared the cage he uses for the Chronos.

The cage is 1584 for Canon. It fits. You need the 2060 cold shoe as well. You bolt the cold shoe to the top of the Chronos and the top of the cage has a shoe tab that slide into that cold shoe.

I flipped the right side brackets so it helps to clear the battery door. You still need to rotate the camera a bit to clear the bottom of the cage. Another minor issue is pulling the SD card. It sits under the cage and I found it easier to loosen the cold shoe tab screws, slide it forward, and loosen the bracket arms so the top of the cage can be removed and now I can remove the SD card.

I was modifying a night vision mount and was cutting off a piece of steel. The sparks looked cool so I grabbed the Chronos and filmed it. The sparks explode like mini fireworks!

9mm bullet from Glock 19 @ 17000fps

https://youtu.be/ec9QryVvnFo

Ooh very cool. What lighting setup did you use?

Here are two clips. Filming .308 flying out of a suppressor. The first shot was sub sonic. So around 800 feet per sec. The second one is a full power super sonic .308 over 2k feet per second. I filmed the sub sonic at 8k fps and super sonic at 21k fps. I figure that matches the bullet velocity pretty well to capture something. But not as clear as your 9mm.

Chronos User Discussion / Small Rig Dreamrig for Chronos 1.4
« on: November 22, 2021, 10:47:20 PM »
I reached out to SmallRig about making a cage for the Chronos and bracket to protect the left side. Specifically the BNC connector. They have a separate program called Dream Rig where you can upload technical specs and drawings and they will help design a cage. No idea how much this will end up costing.

So far I want arca on the bottom with a 1/4-20 hole on the bottom for non-arca compatible tripods. I also wanted nato rails for use with their accessories.

Will keep you updated.

That is what I was thinking to. I removed it just to be safe.

Mine just arrived. I dont have any MFT lenses right now. So luckily I have an C-Mount to MFT adapter and I can still use my C-Mount lenses. I had to not use any shims in order to have a decent back focus for my lenses. However my wide angle 2.6mm lens has to be super close to the sensor.

The instructions have you remove the 9 o'clock fan screw. I dont really see why this is necessary? Maybe to eliminate the screw interfering with the mating of the MFT mount? They also have you remove the CS mount from the camera. So I have to keep that on my 2.6mm lens and screw it in through the MFT mount when I want to use it. It isn't tight but thankfully that lens has a lot of DOF.

Hello everyone,

I tried out some new 3d printed projectile designs for my cam 870 CO2 shotgun :)

Got more details on the shotgun? Also what are those larger projectiles? They did not seem to fly very straight.

Same. I ordered mine as well. Now to go looking for some inexpensive good fast lenses. I’m thinking of the 7Artisans 35mm f/0.95.

Yeah it did not work as well as I had hoped. Gotta play with the lighting and not use GITD bbs. I used a lot of IR light and I think that is washing out the triboluminescence.

I managed to figure out a setup that allows me to use analog Gen 3 night vision with the Chronos and capture low light things.

.22lr sparks when fired in a handgun. It is very noticeable under night vision. But I didnt know there is slow burning powder still in the brass as it ejects.

Chronos User Discussion / Flashlight for filming
« on: November 10, 2021, 12:21:26 AM »
So I reached out to my friend at Illumn. I brought my Chronos 1.4 over to his shop and we tested an Imalent DX80. It outs out 30k lumens on turbo. I tried some really high FPS and reduced shutter speed and did not notice any flicker.

I bought it and tested it when I got home. I was able to film a .22lr bullet traveling approximately 710 fps. I reduced the shutter speed to 40% thinking I would play it back at 20fps. It is kind of dark but you can see the bullet. I took a couple more videos with faster shutter speed and the bullet is rather blurry. Will be testing this some more. The light can operate at full brightness for 3 minutes. I turn it on right before I hit the remote trigger and as soon as I stop the recording I turn off the light. At a few seconds of use per capture think I can use this light for a while before recharging.

I started shooting above the 10k FPS mark on the 1.4 this weekend, and managed to capture two cloud-to-ground lightning strikes.  496 x 268 at 10,034 FPS.

Wow very cool. What lens did you use?

With the help of my friend at Illumn we found a flashlight, Imalent DX80, that was able to pump 30k lumens without any flicker. I tested it and captured a .22lr bullet traveling around 710fps.
