Chronos User Discussion / SD card vs SSD
« on: May 03, 2020, 07:54:42 PM »
Will an SSD save faster than an SD card? That's the impression I got reading through this forum.
I've been using an SD card until I recently tried an SSD & was surprised to see the save rate about the same for both. My test was not very scientific, I just observed the fps display during a save to both types of media.  This was my test:
Chronos 1.4 - 1280x720, 1502 fps.
Video 1: save to SanDisk Ultra 64GB micro SD
Video 2: save to Kingston 120GB SSD

In both cases the fps I observed during the save bounced around between 90-110 fps.  Neither had a clear speed advantage.
Maybe I don't have a very fast SSD or maybe I'm under the wrong impression.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Chronos User Discussion / Home made accessories
« on: June 15, 2019, 03:45:26 PM »
I was looking for a pistol grip for my 1.4 but the ones I saw on Amazon all have a mounting screw that is too short (the female thread is the bottom of the camera case is a bit recessed) so I made my own.
I started with a small maple branch that felt good in my hand & cut it to size. The mounting screw is made of an old plastic knob with a piece of 1/4" bolt epoxied into it. Sanded then finished with tung oil.
High tech meets low tech.
Its a bit front heavy so I'll keep my eye open for a more suitably shaped branch when I'm cutting firewood this summer.

Chronos User Discussion / Segmented recording problem
« on: May 23, 2019, 01:11:16 PM »
I am having a problem with Segmented recording.
Segmented recording always results in 1 less than the number of segments I  set.  The last segment is twice as long as the rest, wraps around the buffer & erases the first segment.
Sounds like a software problem.  Anyone else experiencing this?

Chronos User Discussion / Wish List - Tripod Mount
« on: May 04, 2019, 06:07:48 AM »
I have a minor suggestions for future cameras:
I use a Vanguard Alta Pro 236AT tripod (excellent tripod for us amateurs).  The thread on the tripod mount point is recessed from the bottom face of the camera more than my other cameras resulting in just 1 1/2 turns of thread engagement before the screw bottoms out at the tripod end.  The camera can be mounted but I'm a little nervous having this expensive piece of equipment hanging by a thread, so to speak. I'll see if I can get a longer mounting screw for the tripod but a better solution would be to have the female thread on the camera extend right to the outside face of the camera body.

Chronos User Discussion / No Batt
« on: May 03, 2019, 08:29:12 PM »
My Chronos 1.4 arrived today & I'm having trouble charging the battery for the first time.  My first problem was installing the battery.  After reading some posts I learned that tight fitting batteries have been an issue & apparently  still is.  I bought a spare battery on amazon prior to getting the camera & was happy to see that it was identical to the one that ships with the camera. After plugging in the power cable the light came on & I assumed the battery was charging.  After 2 hours I unplugged the cord & pressed the power button but the camera did not power up. I plugged the power cord back in, pressed the power button & the camera powered up but it shows a "No Batt" message in the bottom right corner.  I tried my second battery & had the same result.
Any suggestions?

General high-speed discussion / Video editing software
« on: April 27, 2019, 05:17:52 PM »
I just ordered my camera today & can't wait to start playing. I'm wondering what video editing software people are using. I've had a GoPro for a few years & have been using PowerDirector with satisfactory results (I'm a PC guy, not Apple).
Now that I'm going from regular speed & time lapse videos to radically slowing things down I wonder if different editing software might be necessary for optimal results.  The camera will not be used commercially, its just for fun. Are video editing software packages generally good or bad across all types of filming or are some better at say time lapse than high speed while others are better at high speed than time lapse?
