Chronos User Discussion / Re: HDMI support

Remember that the camera's video preview is extremely bright so you might be able to see it on the camera LCD but appear black on the monitor. Good thing to keep in mind for recording as well, might appear reasonably exposed on the LCD but way too dark when playing back on your computer.

Is this an ad? Feels like an ad ;)

Anyway, 185Wh is a concern for air travel. The general rule is <100Wh is fine, which is why many large laptop batteries are 99.5Wh or so. Not strictly enforced by airport security but it'd suck to get that one screening agent that knows the rules and seizes your 150EUR powerbank.

Wow, the difference is much greater than I expected. The details on the stick of RAM and the colours of the cables  :o

My biggest request is saving metadata, such as:
  • exposure time
  • frame rate
  • record time (since I often save it much later and the filename is the save time)

Doesn't have to be anything complicated like embedding it in the mp4 metadata. I'd like it if it created a .txt file (with the same filename as the video) with that info in it. Add a simple on/off option to the menu.

Chronos User Discussion / Quick and dirty wired remote trigger
« on: September 27, 2017, 01:45:45 AM »

Just a normal whiteboard marker?

Nope! I needed a quick wired remote trigger for my new toy and wanted to build it out of stuff I had lying around. Needed it to fit in your palm and be thumb triggered just like the shutter release for SLR/DSLR cameras. Happened to have a dried up whiteboard marker on the table next to me and this is the result:

Machined the button end piece out of delrin rod, inserted a little push button switch. Cut off the end of where the marker tip was, machined the BNC connector down slightly to friction fit. The cap nicely protects the BNC connector :D

Just had a look at a few product specs for the Neewer lights and they all seem to say "constant current drive" which should work with high speed filming. Most (if not all) lights designed for video should use constant current; most LED flashlights/torches have moved from PWM to constant current, so the chips and designs are cheap and plentiful now.

I'm going DIY for starters. I already have rolls of cheap LED light strips (usually around $5-10 for 5m) just need to connect them to 12V, good for flood or fill lighting. Otherwise I'm just going outside, get plenty of sunlight where I live, even during the cold months. Simple just to place a few reflective panels around to concentrate the light if necessary.

Ah, that's pretty much what I was thinking of doing. Thanks.

Still a little while before my camera should arrive but at least I can get all the accessories ready and get going straight away.

It's not going to be THAT close to the muzzle blast that it would affect the electronics. The default lens has a pretty decent zoom range. I'm just trying to protect against things like ejected brass cases, splash from loose dirt/rocks or possibly a ricochet, depending on how thick I'm going to make the shield.

Chronos User Discussion / Mounting Holes
« on: May 26, 2017, 05:26:55 AM »
Obligatory "FIRST!!". Somehow I managed to create the first ever thread on this forum.

Anyway, does anyone have the dimensions for the mounting holes and threads that were added to the front of the camera? I'll be using it in close proximity to firearms and I'm looking at building a protective case or shield around the front of the camera.  Cheaper to replace a sacrificial piece of acrylic or polycarbonate rather than replace a lens or camera should it be hit with shrapnel or muzzle blast.

Thanks,
Jeff
