I uploaded another set including raw files in the footage thread.
Also there's another coin video uploading right now ;)

I did as you requested and filmed a coin drop.
Lighting: direct sunlight, about 5 m distance to camera, fstop about 9

The raw will take quite a while to upload, i will edit as soon as it's up.

EDIT:
here's the original mp4: https://nineff.de/nextcloud/index.php/s/tJzYHCr4gZSRatZ

great to see it coming along!

The error basically means the connection to the camera failed on port 22.

Can you try to use ssh to connect to the camera? PuTTY is a great windows tool for that. Or use BASH directly if you're on windows 10.
From there on troubleshooting is much easier.

I installed the update without problems and did try to take a comparison, however i nudged the focus and therefore the test was invalidated :(
I just trust you guys and I'm not going to revert the update...

ok I now did the following:
Nuked my beloved ARCH installation and got Debian 7.11 working, which was surprisingly difficult.
While installing I was browsing around and found some interesting sites:
here compatible adapters are still for sale:
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/catalog/wireless-networking-gnulinux
and here you'll find a link to a huge number of WLAN adapters and their compatibility
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_alles.php

I then managed to get the USB dongle to work, which required the "Non-free" Debian repos to be enabled and the installation of the "firmware-realtek" package. This had me confused for a while because the aforementioned website lists the chipset as Atheros and I was fooling around with the "firmware-atheros" package for way too long.

Also my laptop has an interal WiFi adapter, which I disabled using a hardware switch so I'm pretty sure I'm using the USB dongle instead.

TL,DR: The Netgear one works with some non-free packages.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: NTP for precise timing
« on: August 03, 2018, 08:31:53 AM »
I think you can easily get within a few tenths of a second using the setting of the clock via commandline using a script. If you measure the responsetime of your connection you should be able to sync the time to within a few hundredths of a second compared to your reference pc. You'd need to do this quite regulary to compensate for drift however. If you need the accuracy to be very high you might just wait for NTP insted of hacking your own solution together which would just recreate the functionality ;)
A quick qoogeling reveals NTP usually is within 10 milliseconds over the "open" internet and can go down to microseconds using a special kernel and a local time reference as well as a stable oscillator.
This can get as complicated as you'd like, especially in a research environment  :P
I'm pretty sure the cameras systemclock is only used for timestamping your saved videos, so +/- a few seconds should suffice there.

EDIT: if you really need precision, maybe look into PTP instead of NTP

You could just connect via the USB to Ethernet bridge and use the date command to set the time/ date from another machine which has NTP sync. Since you already want to use your computer with GPS this should be relatively easy.

If we can find a wireless USB dongle for sale that is supported by Debian 7, then wireless remote control will work as well. We haven't found a compatible dongle yet, the ones which do work are no longer for sale. However, something may yet turn up.
You might look into the "Netgear N150 Wireless Adapter (WNA1100)" This one is reccomendend for the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Brick. It should run on any more or less modern Distro.
I have this dongle and am willing to test with debian 7 on a laptop for you.

As far as I'm aware this is not possible yet with the current software. Logging the inputs however is planned.

Awesome!
Now whe have even more to look forward too. It's also very nice to have a rough idea what you guys are working on istead of having to pry every little bit of info out of you ;)
If I hadn't already, I would go and throw some piles of money at you...  ;)

I took my Chonos apart once and you're absolutely right. While there aren't any official G-Ratings or tests, the thing which is the most "unstable" is the Lens and its mounting. Everythin inside is secured quite well.
