Chronos User Discussion / Chronos 2.1 FPS>5406???
« on: February 14, 2020, 05:31:27 AM »
Hi,
We just received our 2.1 and I am not able to get to any lower resolutions than 640x480 and thus am not able to get any faster rates than 5406fps. With our 1.4 we were able to get to much lower resolutions/higher fps. I have tried adjusting all settings to see if there was any change whatsoever but I have not been able to find a solution.
Thank you in advance for your help.

General high-speed discussion / Shadowgraph Troubleshooting
« on: August 29, 2019, 08:49:27 AM »
Hi,
I am having a difficult time saving out raw files of our shadowgraph setup. The mp4's look great. I was just hoping to have the raw files to play with. But they are saving out very strangely. Here is an example of the mp4 vs the raw frame...
Any tips or advice?
 Thank you in advance,
Laura

Chronos User Discussion / Question about Shutter Speed
« on: December 06, 2018, 10:14:19 AM »
Hello!
I have been trying the achieve a shutter speed of 1us or faster. I've noticed that on a couple of the Chronos presets the minimum shutter speed can go as low as 850ns (800x480 & 3,587 fps). A few other presets's shutter speed minimums are at 1.010, 1.210, 1.040 and the majority at 1.200. The preset with the highest frame rate at 31,191 fps has a minimum SS of 1.040... while another preset for 21,649 fps has minimum SS of 1.210...
What am I missing? I just can't find any rhyme or reason to this and i'm wondering how that limitation is calculated. I need to maintain a frame rate of at least 15k. Is there a combination of resolution and frame rate that will allow for a shutter speed faster than 1us?
Thank you for any input!

Thank you both for your responses!
I've been using a trial version of Camera Raw & Photoshop to convert for now...once they are in tiff format we bring them into PFV viewer to analyze the video...but I am in the process of downloading VirtualDub and Rawtherapee now!
Thank you both so much.
Have a great week!

Software Dev / Re: Start Trigger
« on: May 08, 2018, 05:12:15 AM »
David,
Thank you so much for getting back with me about this and for the extra bit of knowledge you gave, it is tremendously helpful. We were just mainly concerned about it overheating. Good to know it will produce the same amount of heat regardless. That way we can keep our trigger the way it is.
You've gotten back with me in regards to a few of my questions, can't thank you enough!
Hope you're having a great day & week :)
Take care!

Software Dev / Start Trigger
« on: May 07, 2018, 05:56:18 AM »
Hi
I am running v 2.5 beta on a Chronos 1.4 Monochrome 16gb and am wondering if there is anyway to bnc start trigger rather than end trigger.
We have the camera in a waterproof housing and it gets really hot after the camera has sat in there recording while we lower our setup into the water...assuming it would be less hot if it were not in there recording while we're finishing up...
Thank you,
Kind regards,
Laura

Hi,

So happy with the camera update and the raw files we have now! For what we are working on though, we need BMP files...does anyone have any suggestions on conversion or any other ideas on how we could get there? Even a code in python or something?

Thank you :)

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Greetings & Questions from SW Ohio

It does! Thank you so much. I'm hesitant to update to 0.2.5 while we're in the midst of testing...from what I've noticed throughout the forum though is that there haven't been too many issues with it?

Chronos User Discussion / Greetings & Questions from SW Ohio
« on: February 20, 2018, 07:01:53 AM »
Hello!
My name is Laura, I am a photographer; hired by a small engineering firm in SW Ohio to aid in the visualization aspects of their company. My background in video is very minute. I've come to this forum because I'm pretty sure Tyler (who has been extremely helpful with all of my questions) has probably grown tired of my many inquisitions.  I'm still new to this field but am loving learning it...or at the very least, am enjoying my attempts at doing so.
We have some very interesting projects for which we are using the Chronos 1.4. We purchased the monochrome, 16gb version and are running the 0.2 camera application on it (that's what it came with). Which brings me to my first question- I've read through a few of the previous threads about a software update that came available before this camera was released. I am unsure it is the version that is on the camera- should I update the software? We would love to be shooting in raw...and be able to have the camera triggered to record and save.
Which brings me to my second question, I know absolutely nothing about TTL triggering, but have been asked to figure out how to trigger the recording of our event (about 6 seconds of very precise data) and then save it, and then record again- so on and so forth. Ryan, who I work with but is not an electrical engineer, has figured out how to trigger the camera to stop recording with a BNC...any suggestions on where to continue with this?
Please accept my apologies, I realize my level of understanding with these issues is elementary. When searching the web, there is so much information it is overwhelming, especially when trying to find very specific answers that pertain to very specific things. I wholly appreciate any response, suggestions or advice.
Thank you for your time!
Laura
