Chronos User Discussion / Re: 2 x Chronos 1.4 cameras and lighting for sale
« on: February 23, 2023, 02:15:07 PM »
Thats the Name of the User that posted what you can Read at that Time.
Someone Made a New Account with that Exact name, i dont know if its by random Chance that its the same Name you use, or how that happened, but that user literally tried to impersonate the Seller, so who knows whats going on there.
New account, just a few Hours old:
 forum.krontech.ca/index.php?action=profile;u=1186
Post has since been Deleted, as i reported any of these Weird Replies i could find, to be removed.
did Put the Quote there, but removed the External Link, so people reading this much later in time can follow whats happening at least a little.
Didnt want to cause confusion with this, but also didnt know that was your actual username Elswere, which is indeed weird that the same Name is now used by some Bot?

Ok, Epic Fail.
The 2.1 finally running with a Peltier on the Sensor and a Air-Cooler mounted to it, to cool the whole thing.
However, the added Thermal Load from the Peltier is actually that high, that the Largest Air-Cooler i could Physically fit inside there is not Able to dissipate all that Heat, even with Forced Ventilation from a High Static Pressure Server Fan directly to the Cooler.
Put a lot of work into this, hoping to get it working without using Heatpipes, but seems i have to come up with an even more Powerful Thermal Solution to finally get to effectively cool the Sensor.
This just is not working and just produces much more heat overall, causing the Temperatures to run away.
Stopped Testing when it was raising over 79°C, as i finally got an Answer from Krontech saying, that 80°C is the Max. Operating Temperature of the Sensor and Processor. When reached, it will Force the internal Fan to 100% Power for 10 Seconds, and if 80°C is held for 10 Seconds it will Shut itself off for safety.
 .
Hoping to post Updates on this soon, but this whole Experimental Cooling Concept now needs a Major Rework to have realistic Chances to actually work after these First Test Results.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: High-speed spectroscopy
« on: February 15, 2023, 05:54:49 AM »
A Quick Search brought up nothing Useful, and i dont know much about Spectroscopy, could you Share some Link, where Actual Equipment used for this is shown, as well as a Short, good Summary of the Working Principle of that Process?
 .
As Far as Cooling the Sensor goes, that wont do anything to the Specifications of the Camera.
Only thing you would in theory get out of cooling the Sensor (i am Currently about to test that), is Lower Noise and Higher Light Sensitivity / Better Dynamic Range.
Other than that, the Throughput of the Camera is fixed and Cant be Changed without messing with internal Clock speeds and Modifying Firmware and so on.
But you wont gain much Speed from that, at best a few Percent, while most Likely Sacrificing a lot of Stability of the Whole Camera. Meaning Way more Crashes/ Freezes or all Kinds of Image Defects and Glitches in the Footage.
So, no. Cooling the Sensor and Overclocking is most likely not worth the Effort for what you are trying to do (I dont know how much Image Quality and Sensitivity / Noise matters for you, but since you brought it up in your Question, i assume its probably relevant. For that, you might get a Benefit from Cooling, but not for bare Pixels per Second Performance).

What an odd reply to my original post  :o

Is it some sort of AI bot?

Anyway, I do have the lighting advertised on a certain auction site now if anyone's interested.

Seen some Weird Bots and just Straight up Spam in this Forum.
General Advice, do not click any Links from New users especially if they only have 1 to 3 Posts on here and the Replies hardly make any Sense.
Most of those Links are something Completely off-Topic from Anything Related to Highspeed Cameras or anything discussed on this forum.
I have never Tried Clicking one of these Weird Links, but beware. Could be Anything from just General Spam / Obnoxious Advertisement to Actually Malicious Sites Like IP Grabbers and the Like, Virus Pages, Scam Sites, etc.
I Notified Krontech when it was Really bad like two Years ago, when you could Start New Topics on Boards, and have the Name of the Topic just be an Valid URL Link. So when you had Notifications Enabled like me, the Name of the New Topic in the Notification Mail you got for it was actually clickable and would bring you to the Linked site. That Link happened to also be just below the usual Link in those Notifications that would take you to the Forum Page for the New Topic, so it was very easy to click the Wrong one, if you where not careful.
I think they did disable that after this, cause i never saw that happening again. There is also a Limit that you can only post so many replies / Start Topics within 24 Hours, cause some Bots did Flood the Forum at some Point with all kinds of Posts with Questionable Links and even Sexual Content, probably hoping to get Personal Info from People.
I really dont know why People still post such BS here every now and then, but still happens, just way less then some While ago.
 .
For this one, I would probably just wait a little longer, maybe this user posts another Reply, to clarify what they are actually trying to say, otherwise i would tend to Report that post eventually if no further Reply. Just to remove that Link...  Could however also be just someone who is not a Native Speaker and uses some Really bad Translator. there Have been some Hella broken English Posts on here as well, but from Legit Users, or People interested in the Camera, so its kinda hard to judge from a single post (Those however usually never contain weird Links...).
I will not bother trying out to see what page that is on my actual PC right here, or doing the Research to see if it is some known Scam or anything.
If someone has a lot of Spare Time, a Solid VPN Network or something like that, and Some Kind of Virtual Box Setup or a Sacrificial PC to figure this out, let us know how it went...

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 2.1 max operating temperature?

@ivandan:
For best Results it is recommended to start the Camera (boot), do a Black Calibration, then let the Camera run for ~30 Minutes to get to a Stable Temperature, then do another Black Calibration; and then you are Ready to shoot. for all Further Shooting, do another Black Calibration at least every hour, better every 30 Minutes.
 .
Of course Environment Temperature Changes influence the Camera and Sensor Temperature a lot, so that should ideally be fairly Stable.
Does however not always work like this in the real world, especially outside, and when you are on the go, Shooting Fast Run-and-Gun Style Stuff.
But i guess a Mobile AC unit would not be Practical for that kind of Scenario as well. That would maybe work in a Studio-Setting, but the Question is how well.
If you end up experimenting with Cooling, i can Highly recommend to flash a new Firmware on a Separate, New MicroSD Card, and Run Through the Initial Calibration Process AT THAT TEMPERATURE you are later trying to use the Camera at.
Not only does the Noise and overall Image Change a lot when the Sensor Heats up after start, it also does even Worse things, if you Suddenly Drop the Temperature of the Camera fast.
So if Calibrated for Hot Sensor, and you end up Using it Cool, that will also Lead to Less than ideal Results.

I am literally doing just that. currently Modding to be able to mount a Peltier AND a Heater to the Sensor, so i can test the widest possible range of Temperature.
I am aware of the Condensation issue, and prepared to deal with that.
 .
And no, i am not afraid to take some Risks with this Project, see my earlier work on a proof-of-concept (Which was not effective enough) Watercooler:
 https://forum.krontech.ca/index.php?topic=608.0
 .
As well as the Current Project of extending all internal Connections, to fit Long Spacers between the two halfs of the Camera Housing, to be able to fit the Peltier and an Modified Cooler:

@ivandan:
I dont quite understand, what you are trying to do?
Is your Camera overheating or what is the Problem?
I personally am trying to figure out, what the Maximum and Minimum Safe Operating Temperature of the Sensor is, without causing damage; to set Limits for Testing the Widest possible Range of Temperature with a custom Cooling/heating Solution on the Sensor, to find out where it perfoms best in terms of Sensitivity, Dynamic Range, Noise and such.
Already did a much simpler Test Earlier on the Forum, but next test should be in a way more controlled Environment and actually reproducible Results.
 .
If you for whatever Reason want to just cool the Camera down, yes, a Mobile AC unit / Standalone Mini AC Unit will work. Just blow the Cold Air onto / Into the Chronos, that will cool it down quite a bit.

Bit hard to tell, but unless you changed some major Thing about the Light on the Last Shot, i assume you used higher a Higher Gain Setting than on the lower FPS Shots.
 .
When used in Moderation, a bit of Gain in the right Situation (especially if otherwise the Frame would just be too dark, and you cant change that by other means) can actually give you much better overall Image Quality. At least that is true for Firmware 5.xx / 6.xx and Later on the 2.1, assume its about like that on the 1.4.
 .
While its ofc. always best if you just have enough Light to Shoot with no Gain at all, with the Newer Firmware you at least shouldnt be afraid to try bumping the Gain a little bit if the Frame is just straight up to dark.

@ivandan: Hi there, u still alive? Been more than 6 Weeks since i posted the DNGs, still got no answer, if you where able to download them yet. Will Delete sometime soon, if i dont hear anything back.
Did Delete Them Eventually, since it was a Lot of Data and i wanted to save some Space on the Forum Server.
Would have to Re-Upload if you need or want them.
