Chronos User Discussion / Re: 2nd battery

As suggested, I bought the AkkuKing batteries in replacement. They have the same snug fit as the originally supplied DSTE battery. They look so exactly the same, that I'm sure they actually are from the same factory.

But still I need a tool like a popsickle stick to pry the battery out the first few milimeters. The cover closes hard on the batteries, DSTE and AkkuKing. The compartment does shave off a little plastic on all of these batteries.

I'm aware this was a first production run, but for a series production 4000$ camera this seems not OK. The battery compartment needs to be changed on the next batch. Even if the price of spare batteries is small in comparison to the camera value, any EN-EL4a should fit, not only certain brands, and not only when jammed in forcefully and extracted with the use of a tool.

I really like my camera and I'm very happy that I got mine from the kickstarter campaign. But the battery compartment is an annoying pain for me, where I film I usually don't have power. A conveniently changeable battery is an important point to me.

Good idea, thanks! I'll give that a try.

Any progress here? Especially in low light with wide open aperture focusing is troublesome. A larger high-res screen would help a lot.

An option for zoom will be back in the next update.

Was the option in the last update? I didn't find it, but it would help me a lot. Most of the time I film in low light conditions, so I always have the lens set to the fastest f stop. Focus highlighting doesn't work reliably in these conditions, and the resolution of the internal screen is too low to sucessfully eyeballing focus, especially with very short focus depth.

Filmed @1000 fps at the German Championship in Cowboy Action Shooting Black Powder.

First two videos show me with my 1873 short rifle, the second two videos are with one of my Shofield Revolvers. 3 shots each.

EDIT:
The clips were shot at low ligthing. It was about 1600h in the afternoon, on a German "outdoor" shooting range. Layout of range see here: (no slowmo in this vid) https://youtu.be/qLkEXiOPwjM

The flickering in the background is 50 Hz from the electric lighting on the range. I had to crank up brightness in YouTube to make the action visible at all. I'm trying to brighten it up in a better video editor and re-upload it. The quality of these edits is just poor. Sorry for that.

@ tesla500:
I just ordered some Akku-King batteries, and will try their fit. Will report back as soon as I got results.

I don't have any larger batteries here, so I would need to add these costs, too. When I use the camera indoors, I always use the power adaptor it came with, but on the shooting range we don't have power.

I have ordered two of these:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B015FXR6EY/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They do NOT fit the camera. The battery compartment in the chronos seems to be very tight, and these batteries are on the large side of tolerances. When inserting they shave off some material on the entrance to the compartment, and will not fully seat. I needed a screwdriver to get them back out, bending the tabs on top. Also the cover will not close on these batteries. One didn't even contact correctly and won't charge.

I tried to get the DSTE batteries like the one that came with the camera, but the website given on the battery doesn't seem to exist. AliExpress has products of that company, but this type is only available in a set including a battery grip for a camera I don't have.

Since the originally supplied battery also shaved off a little bit of plastic and the cover closes hard, I assume the battery compartment in the chronos just is a bit too tight. That should be addressed in later production runs.

Does any of the users here have any first hand experience which battery does actually physically fit inside the camera? I can't send back batteries with shaved off material and bent tabs, and buying a few types just to throw them away is to wasteful.

Chronos User Discussion / external battery charger?
« on: January 02, 2018, 03:39:24 AM »
Hi Forum,

has anybody yet found an affordable external charger for the EN-EL4A batteries? The cheapest one I could find was close to 200 Euro! I could nearly buy ten batteries for that price.

Hi Mark,

nice to see you here. Did you hear anything from Royal Nonesuch lately? He is quite inactive on youtube :(
