Software Dev / Re: Software V0.3 RC2 (Updated June 11, 2018)
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:15:49 PM »
I can't be the only one who has trouble with these updates.   No matter how I follow the instructions,   it still takes an hour of trying to shift files around until I either give up or get lucky and it eventually works.    I think I am still on version 2.0.

I think Joerg Sprave just got his Chronos too.  Have fun!

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Need a tutorial on shutter speed
« on: September 12, 2017, 04:26:20 PM »
so 2x or 180 degrees would be 50% shutter. 100% would be equivalent to 360 degrees.

I think that's why some of my fast-moving subjects, like the pellet in my most recent trial, are stretched; the shutter is open too long per frame, allowing motion blur.

Armed with that explanation, I don't think it needs to change yet. I just didn't know how to use it, will try a few more settings.

The more you play with the camera,  the better.   I would suggest using the largest aperture,  set your focus,  then increase the speed of the shutter which will darken the imagery.

Chronos User Discussion / Let's talk LENSES!
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:08:41 PM »
I admit I know very little about lenses.  When people have suggested certain lenses and adaptors,   it has just confused me even more!   It would be interesting to know
what people have used,  what has worked,   and what lenses work best for different applications like macro to zoom.   Trying to find the perfect lens can get very expensive,  so I hope
we can all learn from each other.

You are straying off topic.
You never pull the card on ANY camera that is powered....
Go buy storage for a RED and you will never do it again.

Sure,  but  this isn't just "any camera".

Not sure if anyone is aware of this,   but  I have recorded some test shots,   removed the SD card before shutting down the camera,  and the last file is corrupt.   This doesn't happen when the camera is shut down first.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Can't Play Files
« on: July 12, 2017, 11:41:14 PM »
I can email one to you, if you can help that would be amazing since this footage cost me a lot of money to capture and it's very important to me.

I did eject the card soon after saving, I didn't know there was a requirement to leave it in. The camera should still say saving if it's not complete IMO.

The clips are about 2000 frames IIRC.

William,  I have found that if you remove the SD card before you shut down the camera,  the file will not be playable.

The camera ships with a CS-C adapter ring installed, as well as a dust cap. Be sure not to accidentally
remove the CS-C adapter when removing the cap.
   That's all me right there!

My eyesight sucks and I am wondering if anyone has tried to hook up an external monitor to their camera?   I film everything in bright sunlight and
it can be difficult for me to just verify if I have focus, etc.  ideal for each shot.

HSC seems to be quite pleased with the sunshade: http://www.hispeedcams.com/chronos-1-4-mods-make-improvements/

I made something similar with a piece of black cardboard.  It does help.  Draping some dark cloth over the camera like an old timey photographer helps too.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 1.4 Footage Thread
« on: June 29, 2017, 03:18:46 PM »
Someone should start a thread listing everyone who owns a Chronos and is posting footage.  Youtube,  or where ever.   I'm really curious what everyone is doing with their cameras.

That's nice!   I with the remote trigger plug was flush.

Just a single pole,  momentary switch of any type is all you need.

Saving the entire clip will take forever,  so if you can,   try to mark in/out  just what you want to save.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: How Long Does Black Calibration Take?

The higher the resolution,  the longer the B/C takes.   It should take more than 20 seconds or so though.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Using the charger with an inverter
« on: June 29, 2017, 02:54:33 PM »
I almost always use a cheap 40 watt- cigarette lighter inverter and string out a 50 foot ext. cord from my truck when I am filming.   We film for about 3 hours at a time so it's easier to do that than worry about changing batteries and risk losing an important clip if the camera shuts down when I am saving a file.
