Hello nice girls and guys.

I would like to create a very sudden fps-change from 1000 fps to 1 frame per 10 seconds (timelapse) with gated triggering on IO3. So start e.g. with 1000 fps and 180 degree for say 2 seconds, then suddenly doing timelapse with one frame each 10 seconds, with the same exposure times for each frame of course. I want to drop crushed ice, capture that with 1000 fps, then, when the ice stopped moving, I want to switch to Timelapse mode: one frame every 10 seconds.

I succeeded to make the camera film with 1000 fps with the external signal, but I failed to do the timelapse part. The Trigger IO is set to IO3 - Shutter Gating, no invert, no debounce. I connected an Arduino to IO3 and provide 5 Volt to the camera for triggering.

In Timelapse mode I expected the camera to expose the frames as if in 1000fps mode, but instead everything is bright and I get a lot of motion blur. I can't figure out, what I am doing wrong. Everything seems to meet the requirements for the gated burst signal as described in the manual. I also tried with "Exposure trigger" mode for IO3, which should also work, since the falling edge of the input signal is not important for the exposure time, no?

Here is the code that works as long as the delay(10000) is commented out:

loop()
{
         // delay(10000);

   digitalWrite(CHANNEL_TRIGGEROUT_CAMERA, HIGH);
   delayMicroseconds(500);
   digitalWrite(CHANNEL_TRIGGEROUT_CAMERA, LOW);
   delayMicroseconds(500);
}

Anyone having an idea?

Thanks!

Martin

Hello! Now that I got more light for filming with my Chronos 2.1, I am able to close the lens aperture much more than before. Now this makes so much dust on the sensor showing up that it becomes critical.

Although I  used rocket blowers to clean the sensor on my DSLRs, I wonder if there is anything special about the Chronos sensor, if someone has some tips, and even more, if there are any suggestions on how to avoid it? I feel really uncomfortable dealing with such an expensive sensor.

Thanks! Martin.

Chronos User Discussion / Nice people @ Krontech

Ok, nice people at Krontech!

now that I managed to establish the WLAN-connection to my 2.1, I was for the first time trying out the http-based GUI for the camera. I am so overwhelmed how nice and smooth all works and now that I grasp the possibilities by completely controlling the camera not only with this GUI but also with JavaScript, I really have so say this publicly:

THANK YOU! I did not really know, which incredible camera and work I got for my money, and which part I missed until now. Thank you, honestly!

Now I got to dig into the API! Woooohooo!  :)

Chronos User Discussion / Wireless down/upload of footage
« on: June 03, 2020, 01:57:21 PM »
Hello nice people,

I'd like to download shots from a 2.1 wirelessly. My idea is to connect a small router to the Ethernet port of the camera, then map a connected folder on a PC, so data would automatically be saved to that.

Do you think this might be possible, or even better, did anyone already try such setup? Or does anyone have any suggestions or annotations to that?

Thanks a lot!

Martin

Hello,

I have strange color shifts (or so) at the first 6 top lines of my frames coming out of my Chronos 2.1, see attached sample.

Not all of the shots of today have that issue, but some do. Any idea what this might be?

Thanks! Martin

Chronos User Discussion / Speed booster St Chronos 2.1
« on: May 21, 2020, 01:17:24 AM »
Hello nice people, now that I understood what a speed booster is, I want to find out how to adapt such to a Chronos 2.1. I have a C-Mount to Canon EF adapter and want to attach my EF Sigma 24 1.8 Full frame lens. What do I have to do? I suppose I need a c-mount speed booster? I can't find such.

Thanks a lot! Martin

Chronos User Discussion / Videos saved but gone
« on: May 18, 2020, 02:30:15 PM »
Hello,

today I recorded some clips to a SSD connected via esatap. I saved as cinemadng. Now the camera seemed to save normally, I saw the frames being counted while saving.

When home again, none of the clips could be found on the disk. I recorded something again, as a test, and now the clip was saved.

Now I wonder how this might happen. Could it be, that the harddisk-handle had been lost after the camera has been booted? And could it be that the frames had been written into nirwana?

With regards to this: There was an announcement that it would be possible in future releases to review already recorded clips within the new GUI. When will this might become true, any guesses? Thanks!

Chronos User Discussion / GPIO plug of Chronos 2.1
« on: February 15, 2020, 03:27:01 AM »
Hello, I want to trigger my chronos 2.1 camera with an external source. Reading the 1.4 Manual one needs a Phoenix Contact part number 1881383 to plug into the camera. I ordered this quite expensive thing and now it does not fit.

Also the port at my camera does not match the one that is shown on the Krontech page. It is not green but black, an image is attached.

Now I wonder which plug I need for the camera.

Even more I wonder if the specs in the Chronos 1.4 match be ones for the Chronos 2.1. Most important: are the pins at the same place and are voltage levels the same?

Thanks a lot! Best regards. Martin

Chronos User Discussion / Chronos 2.1 newbie questions and impressions
« on: February 12, 2020, 02:10:32 PM »
Hello girls and guys,

I received my Chronos 2.1 two days ago and I am a little bit overwhelmed understanding how to deal with it. So I have several questions and I would be very happy to get some help here.

  • Lens: Since I accidentally did not order a Canon EF adapter but wanted to start with some tests, I bought a Fujinon HF12.5HA-1S 12mm F1.4 C-Mount lens, thinking I could start over with it. I was really astonished how small this thing is, and even more that it does not cover the sensor when recording higher resolutions. I need to record 1920x1080 with 28 mm wide angle with respect to the 35 mm format. This is because I am driving a Bullet-Time-Rig made from DSLRs with APS-C sensors and 18mm lenses, thus I have 28mm there. Now I want to integrate the Chronos into this rig. Any idea how to achieve this the best way? Should I try to get a 14mm CS-lens, should I better go with a Canon EF-adapter and a 14mm EF lens, and what about these speedboosters I saw?

  • Special: I need to trigger a studio flash each frame the Chronos 2.1 exposes. Now it seems I could achieve this two different ways. I either could use the Frame-Sync-Output, capture it with an Arduino and then trigger a flash with it, right? Or I could provide a trigger signal both for the camera and the flash, making the camera expose and the flash trigger. I was thinking to use Input 3 for that by sending 5 Volt ramps into it. What do you suggest is the best way to try?

  • IO: Also I have a general question triggering the camera via IO. If each frame of the camera is triggered by an external source, would it be possible then to make the camera do a speed ramp? Or make it film at 30fps? Or even use it like a normal camera, that exposes and then waits until the next signal arrives for the next single frame to capture?

Thanks a lot for your thoughts! Martin
