Hello!

I don't understand the segmented mode together with "disable ring buffer". I would like to record e.g. exactly 1000 frames then automatically stop recording. For that I set Record Mode to "Segmented", Record Length to 1000 frames, Number of Segments to 1. The display now show "Segmented size 1000 frames.

Now I thought camera would start recording to the one and only segment and then, when buufer is filled, stop recording, because "disable ringbuffer" is checked. But instead the camera records and records until I stop recording, still "ringing" the buffer.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thank you so much!

Hello nice girls and guys and so on...

I need to automatically download frames from my Chronos 2.1 and also maybe want to set some adjustments. Now I know there is the web interface, but I would like to code it in C#.

Now I wonder what`s the best way to go? I suppose I would have to talk via REST API? If so, can anyone give me a hint where to start, or did anyone ever talk to the camera in such a way and have a snippet of code for me to start with?

Thanks!

Martin.

Hello, I remember that there was a LUT table for the chronos 2.1 posted here somewhere. SInce I don't have a color chart, I would like to try with that.

Can someone point me to the thread, I can't find it.

Thanks a lot! Martin

Nikon1, you probably will soon get an invitation to canada, to join krontec. did you ever consider to offer them to establish sort of krontec europe support office?

That looks much better, how did you fix it?  Resolve?

Also like to know!

Hello and thanks for your replies. I fully understand the advantages of RAW over H264, that's not my problem. I am just wondering where the "default" look of the RAW is created.

Now if I get it right, the in camera color Matrix is applied to H264 only, right?

In DaVinci you have that color matching tool. With this you can film the color cards you bought for 200$ and then make DaVinci match the footage the color card. As shown here, right?

Now would it be possible to film the color card with a standard 5.600k light and then match this footage min DaVindi to the color card, and boom, one would have a sharable algorithm that could be posted here? This would at least give a good starting point, no?

Very impressive! And very nice color!

Actually I don't understand how the color progress works. I wonder if a) the camera itself does have a LUT that is applied to the RAW internally or if b) the DNG really are absolutely unprocessed data and the LUT has to be applied in post?

If a): As the colors changed with the software version, there has to be some algorithm working in camera, right? If so: which? Is this the color Matrix?

If b): Does one have to develop sort of default setting for Adobe RAW or DaVinci then?

In any case, these settings would be shareable to all users of this camera, no?

Sorry for these beginners questions, I never digged into all that...

Hello girls and guys! I really wonder what happened to the horizontal banding problem when having strong contrast in the scene. I don't have the camera here right now. The problem was discussed here and here.

Some experiences already? Thanks!

This for sure is hardware. Krontec suggested not to use this resolution or to move the recording frame to an area where the problem does not pop up. That's not very satisfying, but I did not decide yet what to do. I am not sure if there is warranty left and how that would be done over here in Germany.

Can't imagine thats the issue. All other modes work fine. Also, when moving the crop to one of the corners of the sensor, the stripes are gone. I'll try to reinstall however...

Hope that it is not because of the very low serial: it is 000017...

Ok, then I really have a faulty sensor or whatever. Shit...

Hello,
today I wanted to try a resolution I never tried before and I could not make it work. I tried 832x456 @ 5682 fps and got some really ugly fast moving stripes at the left side of the display, which appear in the footage too. After fiddling a while it turned out that all of the resolutions with 832 width have the same problem.

I attached three of the recorded frames, the stripes are visible in each frame. The problem appears only at this resolution. Restart, black calibration and changing gain won't change anything...

Do you encounter this on your 2.1 too? Help is really appreciated. Thanks! Martin...

General high-speed discussion / Upscaling footage
« on: July 12, 2021, 03:27:30 PM »
Hello,

now that I got the sweet spots for my camera (thanks to mklinger) I tried higher frame rates to see whether the footage afterwards can be upscaled without becoming ugly.

So I tried some different approaches, but in the end I came up with two workflows that might work. Maybe this is of use for somebody, so:

1. Using Adobe camera RAWs new feature "Super Resolution", which will convert an existing DNG into a new DNG with twice the resolution while keeping the RAW data intact. Actually it bakes the upscaling recipe into the DNG. So one doesn't loose the overhead from the RAW. Unfortunately only Adobe Software can deal with theses enhanced DNGs. When scaling up a 1152x648 frame to 2304x1296, the "enhanced" DNG can be read with DaVinci, but it stays at 1152x648. So going the Adobe way the workflow is a) grade and enhance (new super resolution) the DNGs e.g. from within Lightroom, then b) export these enhanced DNGs from Lightroom as 1920x1080 TIFF sequence.

2. Grade and export the DNGs from within Lightroom without "super resolution" to TIFF, then let e.g. Topaz Gigapixel AI do its job upscaling to 1920x1080.

I attached a PSD with three layers: one from Gigapixel, one from Lightroom Super Resolution, and one from the original  DNG to TIFF without scaling. Although Gigapixel is a somewhat over the top with sharpening, I will stick to it.

There is something to mention, too: The "Enhance Photo" function does a very good job on Moiré. Look at 200% at the roof in the background, there were no vertical roof joints, it is Moiré! GigaPixel simply enlarges it, while "Enhance photo" addresses it quite well. So maybe even when using GigaPixel or equivalents for upscaling, you might want to use Adobe Camera Raws "enhance photo" additionally before exporting.

Have fun!
