Chronos User Discussion / FFPMEG: Fastest conversion of DNG to MP4

Hello! I am shooting in RAW and tried to convert the RAWs to H264/MP4. Now FFMPEG is really fast on that: On my old I7 with 6 cores it converts with 55fps. This is because it uses the GPU.

Unfortunately the output is dark and greenish, but at least I have a fast glance of what happened while recording.

When converting the DNG to TIFF first and then putting them together into a MP4, everything is "normal": White balance, colors, black level.

Does anyone have any experience converting DNGs directly into a video using the GPU?

Nevertheless the freefly camera is really incredible. Unlimited duration @ 1480 fps FullHD and 480 fps @ 4k. Woooooo....

Hello nice girls and guys.

Just a quick question: I am shooting quite much with my 2.1 and it would be nice to have the camera save as fast as possible over network (smb). I wonder if it is possible to make that as fast as to eSata/SSD, which I also have connected? Where are the limitations?

Another one, Laowa 24mm PROBE, 1000 fps, 18 db gain and a lot of noise reduction.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get rid of the vertical lines from the sensor? Is there any special software.

That one was shot at 60 fps.

Yet another attempt with 120 fps. As soon as I got the money, I will put a speedbooster between the Probe and the Chronos., because imho too much of the wide angle is lost... Nevertheless, the lens is fun.

If you really use the lens in a very small space, then it is not that hard to get enough light, I found out. However I could not stop down enough when filming at 1000 fps. So for testing purpose I switched the Chronos to 60 fps.

Now I don't have a slider, so I tried to build something on the fly. That turned out to be useless, since every small disturbance of the motion translates into real shaking with the Laowa "Stick". Also, when stopping down to F40, even the smallest piece of dust on the sensor becomes visible.

So using that lens at 1000 fps not only requires sunglasses and massive light but also a very stable camera slider.

Here is a test that reveals the upcoming problems.

Now as you mentioned the speed boosters, they came to my mind again. I forgot about them, but now I need to know what I could do with them in combination with the Laowa. I resurrected the Speedbooster-Thread again for that.

Hello,

after buying a Laowa Probe with Canon EF mount, I wonder if it is possible to put a speed booster between it and the Chronos. So I wake up this old thread again.

I would like to avoid screwing things off the camera or to 3D print things, I have never done that. So I wonder if there is an easy way to go nowadays, e.g. buy a speedbooster that adapts to the Chronos right out of the box? At the moment I have a CS to Canon EF- adapter mounted to the Chronos.

Hmmmm, what angles are you thinking about? Any ideas I should have had myself? :-)

The whole thing isn't heavy at all, and most weight is at the cameras side, I think. If you want, I can examine that for you.

I have been to a local dealer who had that lens on stock, taking a Godox 200 with me to test how much light it needs. As supposed it needs tons. I saw Steve Giralt and his clients in a making of clip wearing sunglasses. You will often find yourself wearing sunglasses, if you buy this thing.

Got a Laowa Probe 24mm today. That`s really a weird lens, you can have a lot of new perspectives.

Ah, ok. I am planning to mount my 2.1 on my bike tomorrow, to do some street highspeed. Also, it will be mounted on a very fast spinning turntable soon. Doesn't sound that easy to do with a phantom.

When we film it takes always at least one hour to get phantoms running...

Really? Why is this? I never had access to a Highspeed-Cam, the Chronos is my first one... I am just curious.
