Software Dev / Re: Frame sequencing issue?
« on: April 23, 2018, 06:49:48 PM »
In normal mode with a 2 second duration.  I forgot to mention that the two ending frames a the beginning are viewed in a video editor and not necessarily on the camera.  I do an automatic save so I do not review the clips on the camera.

Software Dev / Frame sequencing issue?
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:06:37 PM »
I'm using the Chronos to record events from the trigger, i.e. no pre-triggered frames are recorded, and yet on the video there are a two frames at the beginning of the clip that are from the end of the video.  I am wanting to know the time from the trigger things are happening and I do not know if I should ignore these frames or include them when counting frames from the beginning of the video clip.  Any thoughts?

Hi Laura,

I just installed the 0.2.5 version of the firmware this weekend and love it.  I was a little concerned since it is still in the beta stage but I've had no issues with it and it should do what you want.  Its easy to install and it allows you to (1) set the duration of the recording to whatever you like including triggering whenever you like, (2) auto save the file, and (3) auto start recording.

As far as triggering, by selecting Invert and the 20mA pull up on the trigger menu, all you need for triggering is a switch of some kind.  No external circuitry is required.  You could use a switch, a relay or just momentary touch two wires together.  After the camera auto saves the file, it will go back into record mode and you can trigger subsequent times to record your events.  I hope this helps.

Thanks, I've been waiting for the beta version to be completed with the bugs worked out before uploading.

Do you know when the automatic exposure will be finished?

Chronos User Discussion / Minimum RAM required?
« on: February 10, 2018, 02:48:12 PM »
I just tried two different manufactures of 4GB RAM with I believe are the same specs on the memory that comes with the units without success.  I wanted to record just a couple of seconds and save the entire file automatically.  Everything seems fine until I push the record button and then the image really goes to crap; colors are wrong and some of the image is frozen while other places are still live.  Once I stop recording the bad image remains even if during playback.  I did not try to save the files.  If I power down the unit and restart, all is fine again until starting to record.

Any suggestions on which RAM to use in the 4GB size?

I too am in need of the auto-saving feature although I'm not shooting in a water housing.  I assume that after the camera is finished saving the file it would automatically go back into Recording mode and wait for another trigger, is this correct?

Yes, I was thinking automatic exposure was already implemented.

On the topic of future updates, do you have an ETA on the next software update and what will be included?

I am definitely keeping the triggered signal below the cameras frame rate and the corresponding fps seems to be correct.  I have tested with a triggered signal at 30 Hz and 1,000 Hz but always keep the camera at 1280x1024 or 1057 fps max rate.  It does not seem to adjust the exposure.  Do I have to enter the frames per second on the Record Settings page?

Chronos User Discussion / Triggered Exposure Mode
« on: October 08, 2017, 03:06:09 PM »
I've been testing the Triggered Exposure Mode and it does not seem to work as I expected.  I send in square wave (50% duty cycle) trigger pulse and it appears to change the frame rate but the frame rate shown on the screen is whatever the Common preset resolutions happens to be set at (1057 fps at 1280x1024).  Setting the frame rate to 30 fps seems to make the camera operate at that frame rate based on file size but the automatic exposure does not seem to work.  You can still adjust the shutter speed with the slide bar and adjusting the lens aperture changes the brightness.

The manual states in this mode " the exposure duration is controlled by the camera" so I expected the camera to adjust shutter speed automatically.  Is this mode not working yet?

Also, the microphone is not working either, no sound is recorded.  Is this also on the 'to do' list?

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 1.4 Footage Thread

Here is a test video lighting of a e-match
https://vimeo.com/236510378

The footage was shot at 800 x 600 at 2,873 frames per second with a shutter speed of 89 usec or about 1/11,000 sec.  The e-match had a resistance of 1.227 ohms measured with a milliohm-meter.  The red LED is in parallel with the e-match so the current starts flowing in the e-match when the LED lights.  There is immediate reaction but the pyrogen doesn't start burning for about 0.1 second later.

The objects were illuminated with home built LED lights using a constant current source.

I picked up a wireless system for $12 that has a range of 100m/320ft

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Neewer-860-S1-Camera-Shutter-Release-Wireless-Remote-Transmitter-Receiver-/191616590346?hash=item2c9d3d220a

I have not personally tested it since I have not received my camera but there was a video of someone using it with the Chronos.  I have tested the wireless unit and the resistance drops below 100 ohms which should trigger the camera.

I was hoping someone could confirm that this is the mating connector for the Aux IO port:

Is there other connectors being used?  Thanks,

Chronos User Discussion / Triggering two cameras

Is there any problem triggering two Chronos cameras using a single trigger going into a BNC splitter that is connected to two cameras?  Something like this with appropriate cables to the cameras
https://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-294114-BNC-T-adapter-splitter/dp/B000V1LX6S
If the cameras are set up with the same triggering delays, with the two cameras be synchronized?

I use Corel Videostudio Ultimate X9 but there is a newer version X10 http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/products/videostudio/ultimate/?sourceid=vspx10-xx-ppc_brkws&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0OXwqfCa1QIVmbrACh3RbgPzEAAYASAAEgLKTPD_BwE  It costs under $100 and does a lot for what I need.  You might be able to get previous version at a discounted price.  There are tutorials online if needed.  For the Chronos 1.4 specifically I plan on shooting my videos rotated and this software allows me to rotate them and make videos with the regular 1920x1280 format.  Of course the sides will be blackened or filled in with some other background but I've confirmed that Corel Videostudio will do this.

You can also adjust the speed of the video with VideoStudio, speed up or slow down the playback speed.
