Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 1.4 Footage Thread

Unfortunately, we have decided to remove the 100kpfs feature because of the artifacts at high framerates (around 50kpfs or higher). Starting in the next update, it will no longer be available for the 1.4 or 2.1. The max framerate will be back to 40kpfs for the Chronos 1.4, and 24kpfs for the Chronos 2.1.

Couldn’t it be left in place as an experimental firmware version with appropriate caveats? I can understand not shipping new production units it. But it would be cool to experiment with something on the fringes especially if it’s just a matter of swapping the uSD card and rebooting.

Flying Bee @ 5899 fps  https://youtu.be/FsSZM7V7td4

Can you give us more details on that lens configuration? The canon video is impressive!

Thank you! For this videos I used a Sigma 18-35mm F1,8 DC HSM  for Nikon with a Photodiox (incl. manual aperture) adapter.

What are your thoughts on the Topaz Labs software that you’re using and specifically how it applies to slo-mo work? Have you processed/cleaned up video without upscaling it?

Hello again,

because nobody can visit me during easter time, I just shot all my painted easter eggs :D
And I also tried out the 100,000k+ Framerate of the 1.4. Very impressive! I will do a more detailed video of that in the future.

How are you getting the 100,000 FPS frame rate? More info on the lens & lighting?

Hi there,

I use the 4.0 Beta version. This will allow for nearly 110.000 fps.

Lens: Samyang 35 mm 1.4 with a cmount Canon EF Adapter
Not that cheap at all :'D 500€

Lights: 2 x godox sl 150W

:)

You can See the whole rig in my 40.000 fps Video in the beginning. Nothing changed that much since this day :)

Thanks! I wasn’t aware that the V4 firmware had that capability since someone made a post re. the loss of 40k/s option. What is the resolution at 100k/S? (Waiting on a 1.4 or I’d know the answer)

NVM I found it in the 2.1 thread 320x32

Stupid question: Can you keep various versions each on their own uSD card and just swap them around? For example to use the 40k FPS mode in version V0.3.2 then swap the card for V0.4.0 to try the various new features?

Thanks all for the kind replies. I clearly have a lot to learn so I'll keep reading and watching.

These are what I was referring to. The are 120W and 6000K color temp so that probably isn’t the best for CRI. 5000K I would think would be better. My application is primarily going to be machine and mechanical diagnostics which the monochrome model would be best suited for but I don’t want to limit myself so I’m planning to go with color.

Chronos User Discussion / Lighting question
« on: April 04, 2020, 10:47:23 PM »
Been reading the various threads on lighting and the discussion on the LED modules. I was wondering if  anyone has tried using those LED light bars that they sell for vehicles? They are obviously 12V. I have two 24” versions mounted on my tractors roll bar and they are blinding bright. I paid something like $55 for the pair. I’m thinking of lighting a scene where you might normally use one or more of the halogen work lights.

I didn’t want to start a new thread so I’m asking here. I’m considering the purchase of the 1.4 and trying to decide between monochrome and color. Ideally it would be great to have both. The main application will be for technical & R&D work and I know the monochrome is generally recommended for that application. I’ve watched a great number of videos from this thread and I’ve only seen one side by side comparison between color & mono back on page 8 and it was of flames. I’m curious if anyone has done a side by side preferably of something detailed, mechanical in a frame rate of 8000fps or higher and had a video that they could share, I’m mainly interested in comparing the detail resolution. Or if anyone has a collection of mono videos. I understand the difference in light requirements etc.  Thanks.
