Chronos User Discussion / Re: NEW: Chronos 4K12 and Chronos Q12
« on: November 14, 2023, 04:07:01 PM »
Will you guys have U.S.A. distributors to sell the new cameras so we don't have to pay customs/duties?

BTW, this is just an idea. But why don't you have a competition among Chronos owners to see which can make the most creative video and have the winners get a brand new Chronos 4K12 or Q12 camera. I think that would be a great idea!

Do you mind posting some samples wide open with this lens?

The Chronos 2.1 uses a 4/3 sensor so those MFT lenses should cover the sensor.

https://proav.co.uk/laowa-argus-25mm-f-0-95-mft-apo-lens  has anyone tried this lens on their camera it seems quick. want to try it but not sure.
I am using this len. Well, I really like it. The lens is incredibly sharp wide open

Could you post some sample footage of it shot wide open? Are you on a 2.1? I got a Meike 35 0.95 for $100 and it's surprisingly pretty decent wide open on my 1.4.

They look so awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Nic! Are you shooting with a 1.4?

That looks great. I was just wondering how long did topaz take to upscale the stills ? I was thinking of giving it a try.
Thanks Joe

Hey Joe! Thank you. Topaz VEAI def. takes some time to process even on my M1 Max MacBook Pro. I tend to do short clips so I don’t mind the waiting time. I can benchmark it for you and keep you posted on what the rendering time is for me. I do see you have a Chronos 2.1 so you’ll get even better results upscaling that to 4K on most clips. Bear in mind though that the higher your starting resolution and output are, the longer your render time will be. Since the max resolution of my 1.4 is 1280 X 1024 and my output is usually 2K, it will be much faster to process than 1080P to 4K. If you have a really good graphics card like the RTX 3090 or 4090, that should be even faster than even the M1 Max as I think Topaz is more optimized with those cards.

How long have you had your 2.1?

Anamorphic 1.33X shot at 1280 X 900 then upscaled to 3404 X 1800 with Topaz. Framerate was 600 fps and fstop was around f4 and f5.6. The time of the day was early evening. Used a 1.33X lens for a more subtle anamorphic look compared to the 2X I did earlier.

Some more 700 fps anamorphic shots with the Chronos 1.4 and Blazar Nero 1.5 X. Doing this takes advantage of the full square sensor and makes it a more cinematic aspect ratio without cropping in, losing IQ and pixel information. Also, you get oval like bokeh. It's no Freefly Ember or Wave but doing this does get a unique image from the Chronos 1.4. Click on image to watch on YT.

Nope, they weren't able to do it. Will just have to wait for a Chronos 2.1 ULTRA MAX PRO for higher fps in the future.  ;D I hope they release a 4K 1000 fps version soon.

Thought I'd make a new specific thread for anamorphic shots with the 1.4 and 2.1. I used my Sirui 75 1.33X and Blazar Nero 1.5X adapter on the 1.4 to take advantage of the full 1280 x 1024 sensor. You get an almost 2X squeeze with this combo and nice elongated painterly bokeh that is more oval-like. It def. creates a unique look to the 1.4. Just cropping into the Chronos 1.4 at 720P and adding black bars doesn't create the same look as a real anamorphic and you lose resolution and information at the top and bottom of image.

Software Dev / Re: Will there ever be a 100,000 FPS version again?
« on: July 31, 2023, 05:43:18 AM »
I'd like to provide some steps on how to modify the sensor driver code in a Chronos 1.4 to get to ~100k FPS.

Is there a specific build I need to try this modification on?  I have tried 7.0 and 6.0, and both attempts resulted in a bootloop.

I wish Krontech would just come out with a firmware to release the 100,000 fps version again.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: 2x2 binning on Chronos 1.4.
« on: July 31, 2023, 05:13:38 AM »
In the case of the Chronos cameras, they do support 2x2 binning, which means four adjacent pixels are combined into a single super pixel. This mode effectively doubles the camera's light sensitivity, making it more suitable for low-light situations.
To enable 2x2 binning on the Chronos camera, you will need to access the camera's settings or menu and select the appropriate binning option. Keep in mind that enabling binning will reduce the camera's resolution, so you should choose this mode based on your specific requirements for light sensitivity versus resolution.

Where is this option located?

@BHV how are you filming at 700fps? I thought the 1.4 can only film as low as 1057 FPS?

Yeah, you can set the fps to any fps you want. I'll shoot at a lower fps to get more light.

Yeah, I've noticed that too with very low frame rates like 20 or 30 fps.

There seems to be a slight jerk.
Is the shutter at 180 °?
Quick tip, Youtube compression is much better than Vimeo, especially when there is a lot of detail in the image.
I did some tests with water balloons, and 1000 fps did not seem to be enough. I had better results at 2000 fps 720p and Ai upscale to 4K:

Yes, Topaz VEAI has done wonders for me in upscaling my Chronos 1.4 footage 2K! I can just imagine it would be even better with the Chronos 2.1 with it's better starting resolution at 1080P.
