Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 1.4 Footage Thread
« on: November 28, 2017, 06:41:29 PM »
There are colored lines visible some times. I know this can happen when the memory is cold, but it was about 16 °C, which I wouldn't consider cold. Is there any way to prevent this? I plan to do some more filming in early January, and don't want all of the footage to show these lines.

Hey :)

Did you film using the battery or was the Chronos plugged into a power outlet there?
If it's been on an outlet: maybe there are things on the same grid which introduce small linespikes and result in such artifacts?

All the best

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Adapting other lenses to C-mount

Just fyi i went with a fotodiox EF adapter and the
Samyang 14mm T3,1 ED AS IF UMC II VDSLR lenses - works great and is a “normal” focal length.

Hey :)
Nice, I bet that lens is sharp as well! :D  AND You can get really close..
I've been testing a few Nikon lenses again but e.g. with the 85mm f1.8, sometimes, I sit 2-3 meters away from the event  :(
(but it's soo much sharper wide open, than the 50mm f1.4)

All the best! :)

I'm not familiar with the Sony lenses but if you don't need any electronic controls, I think I can make you one.
Just hunt down a physical drawing of the mount for me and I'll tackle a prototype grade mount.

 :o :o :o
 :D :D :D

Thank you very much for the kind offer!! I'm kinda speechless :)

I was a bit bummed out to learn that there were no adapters for that configuration, but I kept the lens and my next step would have been to ask every manufacturer if something like that is in the pipeline or could be made on special order..

Then there's Nathan  :D

I will try mailing the companies first, I guess..
MAYBE, I'll get lucky with one of them, which would be the easiest, most "painless" option, but I'll start hunting for those e-mount specs as well and keep you informed, progress-wise :)

Thanks again for the helping hand, Nathan!
All the best

PS: I might upload my first presentable clip soon, of things previously very fast ;)

Thank you  David, for checking  :)

I ordered this for now:

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01KFNDGK2

It's just the bayonet, a "copy" ("solid copper" underneath, we'll see..) of the more expensive Fotodiox "Tough E-mount":

https://fotodioxpro.com/products/snye-toughe-p-se15-lt

If this won't fit at all on my Nik-C adapter, the experiment wasn't too expensive and the e-mount lens will go back to the (local) shop.
(I already have the 10-18mm lens by Sony for my a6000.)

For anyone wondering why the heck I would want such an adapter:
It's for the Samyang 12mm F2, an APS-C lens for e-mount, which "should" be nice on the Kronos, but only if it fits.
The lens seems to be only available for Sony E, Fuji X, Canon M and Micro 4/3. Oh and Samsung NX ;)

All the best!
Martin

Chronos User Discussion / Adapting other lenses to C-mount
« on: November 11, 2017, 02:10:15 AM »
Greetings from germany  :)

I was wondering: Did any of you ever encounter a C-mount (body) to Sony E-mount (lens) adapter?
Liks this one for a Nikon lens (which I already have):
http://www.photosale.ru/upload/iblock/a86/a86dd7be0c23b1da5164cefbe3e7bd8f.jpg

If not, since there is a C-mount to Sony A-mount adapter by Fotodiox, are there simple adapter "rings" out there, which only "switch" bayonets from E to A-mount?
Something like this maybe: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41a6ak5x4GL.jpg
So that my "adapter chain" would look like this:
Kronos - C-mount (body) to A-mount (lens) - bayonet switch from A-mount to E-Mount - E-Mount lens  ;D

OR would it be possible to simply refit an E-Mount bayonet to my C-mount to Nikon adapter? Anyone ever tried that? Easy? Fogettaboutit?

I already searched quite a while yesterday and know there are no direct C-mount to E-mount adapters by the big names (metabone, novoflex, K&F, thorlabs, fotodiox, quenox, vello, kipon, kenko, etc) so, Obi Wan, you're my only hope  :D

Thanks for any help!!
All the best

PS: Attached the example pics now as well, if they should move in the interwebs.

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Video Clarity?
« on: September 30, 2017, 03:22:48 AM »
When ever possible I have been using full frame Minolta lenses on my Chronos and it is capable of taking very sharp footage with smaller apertures (f/4-ish) at the 1500fps/720p resolution. None of the c-mount lenses I have tested are very sharp, everything from brand new eBay to 1960s, are pretty soft at all apertures. The problem is getting one or more kW of light on to your subject without cooking it or blowing breakers.

^^ This!!

There "might" be very good c/cs mount lenses out there, but I'm afraid they are either pricy and/or rather bulky/long..

I have a selection of manual focus lenses here, to use on my a6000, mostly Nikon, but also bought a Fujinon-TV 1:1.4/9 with cs-mount.

Even with the dirt cheap Nikon-E 50mm 1:1.8 lens (which is quite compact) image quality, sharpness and colors, improved dramatically over the cs-mount lens...!

I use a simple mount conversion adapter like this: https://shashinki.com/shop/images/VELACNAF-01.jpg

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Let's talk lighting
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:52:19 AM »
Hi Bishop,

it all comes down to personal preference regarding tint/kelvin range/CRI but one aspect is very important to keep in mind/verify: no PWM driven light sources in or even near your setup.

You'll want very constant current and voltage driven (driver = controller) LED lights, else you'll notice pulsating brightness changes throughout your video.

I will tripod-mount several high CRI, (very) high output flashlights from my night-(geo)caching collection and see if that'll be enough ;)

For example this (amazing) person tests these lights thoroughly, including tests for any traces of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation): http://flashlightreviews.ca/reviews.htm
Not sure if this is a subject in every studio lights review?

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos delivered in Germany
« on: September 12, 2017, 11:12:48 PM »
Thanks Tao, will definately have quite a bit of fun ;) I've been waiting for an affordable yet serious highspeed cam for years, only had one of those Nikon 1 system cameras, which are mere toys, to give you an "idea" of what might be possible.. ;( (Nikon 1 have various settings which top out at 1200 fps at very low resolution and always, from button press, 2 seconds realtime recording only...)

Hi Buddlich, just the mail to confirm my shipping address by Tabatha on july the 18th and the DHL shipping notice on september the 6th, including the tracking number.

If you already gave DHL your written permission to handle customs on your behalf your parents will need to have about 551 Euros ready, but I'm quite certain, the delivery guy has a card reader with him.

Chronos User Discussion / Chronos delivered in Germany
« on: September 12, 2017, 03:20:46 PM »
Greetings fellow Kronors,

my main batch camera was delivered today (tuesday 12th), it's at my parents, I'll be there on friday to check it out ;)

Customs was handled via DHL Express (got my customs notice from them on sept. 7th), they needed me to sign a permission first (to have the delivery processed on my behalf) and, as expected, it was "only" 19% tax to pay at the door/at delivery (and about 15 Euros DHL handling fee). No additional customs taxes on imported "digital cameras", that hasn't changed.

I'll be using lenses from my photo camera collection mostly, Nikon, some other brands, need to check what works best.

Lighting will come from my numerous geo-caching throwers ;D

I think it was mentioned before: Thank you, David, for making it all possible :)

All the best
Martin
