Chronos User Discussion / Dragonframe
« on: February 22, 2023, 12:39:22 PM »
Is Anyone using Dragonframe 5 to trigger events while filming?  I have just picked up a used Dmc-16 to control stepper motors and was thinking of using a DMX relay board to control other things like the Chronus shutter, solenoids and pneumatics etc. The motors timeline can be linked to the lights timeline in Dragonframe from what I can see. I'm hoping I will be able to set keyframes to control when things trigger. I was wondering if anyone has done this before I disappear down another software rabbit hole ?
Thanks Joe

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Procedure for RAM upgrade

I do understand about removing the cables but didnt feel the need and I dont like removing that type of cable unless I really have to they never seem to go together so well. I put the camera 'sensor' down with the canon lens adapter on so it was flat, I removed the 4 allen bolts on the back moved the back panel down abot 10mm or so removed the top 2 screws on the PCB then moved it back up past the camera 10mm and removed the bottom 2 screws I eased the pcb out with my hand holding the top panel and pcb, I then tipped the panel to the right and popped the RAM out and the new ones in then rebuilt in reverse order. there was plenty of slack on the cable to do this, each to there own I guess. I didnt mean to tell anyone bad practices just how I did it. thanks for the input.

I have just updated my 2.1 to 32 gig, you can do it without disconection any ribbon cables, just be gentle when removing the 4 screws. I had to reset trigger settings to allow for 11 seconds of recording. Was a bit stressful but all works ok. I used 2 sticks of 16gb memory as above from a levono laptop

Thanks for sharing some interesting things there.

I have done a bit with openCV but not with my Chronus, You need to find the IP config for your particular camera. The open frame is because openCV is not talking to the camera. the IP usually contains an IP address and the port you are using . There are 2 main protocols rtsp and http.  rtsp sometimes uses port 554, http uses 80 or 8000 but these can change also there can be user and pass word info like your second example admin admin included if your camera requires them.Then there are different configs on how it reads that information and what number camera it is at the end of the string but these are not always needed. I would be interested in knowing this info too for my camera! If I get a bit of time I will see if I can work it out.

If you treat the camera as a cctv camera you could live view it I think but I don't think it would be at high frame rate.
Try this code

You will need to pip install the CV2 Opencv library

then

import cv2

cap = cv2.VideoCapture('rtsp://USERNAME:PASSWORD @ IP ADDRESS/1')

while True:

    #print('About to start the Read command')
    ret, frame = cap.read()
    resized_image = cv2.resize(frame, (800, 550))

    #print('About to show frame of Video.')
    cv2.imshow('capture', resized_image)
    #cv2.imshow("Capturing",frame)
    #print('Running..')

    if cv2.waitKey(1) & 0xFF == ord('q'):
        break

cap.release()
cv2.destroyAllWindows()

I've not tried this but will have a look tomorrow if I get chance this should allow you to view the live view on the pc

rtsp://admin:[email protected]:554/1  this is an example of the line of code you need to modify to suit your camera
Use q to kill the window

I've not had chance to use the camera for ages only used it a couple of times before that, the output always looked 'flat' somehow and I couldn't get it as I wanted. I packed it away and didn't use it as time was tight.  So today I updated to the latest firmware and I tried out CinemaDG to export the frames and put them together in prem pro. What a difference. I used a 50mm Samyang lens and a couple of LED 300w lights and a Godox S30 to put a pinpoint on the glass. I'm not an expert as you can tell but really enjoyed myself ! Cant wait to do some more filming with it now.
