Software Dev / Re: Updating the UI
« on: February 08, 2018, 05:04:41 PM »
i still think that right and left arrows for going though playback footage is better than up and down more logical for a video timeline
I agree. The timeline should be horizontal then, though. If we move the timeline to the bottom, we'd definitely change the seek arrows to left and right. I would like to move the timeline to the bottom, because it's more conventional and it would make for more accurate seeking. 800px of sensitivity vs 480px.

i think that the jog dial needs to control more things, I want it to be able to tab between onscreen dialog pop-up boxes and then select an option, like the "start recording anyway and discard popup", it should be able to move the highlighted option by turning left and right and enter the selection by a press in.
But more important it should be able to, with a press-in and turn it should be able to change the shutter speed while the camera is recording or in standby. this would be epic
Yeah! That would be great!  :D

(Code-wise, the jog wheel is currently read in in this file, which I don't understand very well. It appears to *always* used to adjust the current frame in the "play" view. So you can adjust the current playback frame, even when you're not in the playback view. ::) )
I dont think i agree about making the timeline horizontal its way better where it is for right handed one handed control, i just played around with it and keeping it where it is seems better, but still think right and left arrows even with a vertical timeline is still way more intuitive

Chronos User Discussion / Re: Chronos 1.4 Footage Thread
« on: February 07, 2018, 12:45:46 PM »
Finally got to a range with all the new lighting I've accumulated since getting the Chronos and here are some initial test results.
There's a horizontal band which I couldn't get rid of on the day, but hopefully we'll find out the reason for it before the next tests.

All of this footage was shot using a Nikon 10-24mm f3.5 DX and Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX prime attached to a Metabones XL Speedbooster using a MFL to C mount adapter made by Aimed Research. Still could have done with more light as it was a dull day and the range was mainly in shadow, so I didn't get much help from the sun!
Shows promise though I think.

i was at 15 bits per pixel and 60mbs, i was recomended by david 2bits per pixel and 60mbs just a minute ago so im going to try that again

That would do it! The filesize calculation is based on the bits per pixel setting, but ultimately the resultant bitrate is clipped based on the 60mbps limit. In your case, setting it to 15bpp made the camera think the saved file would be about 20x the size it actually will be. Reducing the bpp setting should fix it.
yeah all fixed thanks! getting it all dialed in

Nathan at Aimed Research has made a few adapters to achieve this and he very kindly supplied me with one a couple of months ago. I can confirm it works very well with a Metabones Speedbooster and I'm shooting everything through it from now on.

In a few days I should have some nice test footage done using a Metabones XL and Nikon lenses and i'll post some of it in the footage thread so you can see how it looks.

so awesome! yeah please do, is there a way you could alert me when you post it? also maybe a photo of the adapter? i emailed Nathan, and asked if i could purchase one off of him aswell,
thanks
patrick

We actually just prototyped this, not with a BMPCC speed booster however, just a low cost Chinese one, but it works very well. Speed boosters that have an MFT mount seem to be the most common, but it's not possible to convert MFT to C mount. MFT to CS mount is just possible, but no one makes that adapter. We're going to custom make our own once we have some time to design it.
great to see others were thinking the same thing! keep me up to date on the progress, or if you need help i do mechanical engineering work mainly solidworks

Chronos User Discussion / Re: best saving settings for image quality
« on: February 04, 2018, 02:29:33 PM »
Yes, as soon as you go below 1280 pixels width at maximum frame rate for your resolution, there is a drop in quality, as the sensor is configured for a mode that supports down to 640 pixels width. For best quality, run full horizontal resolution and crop your video in post, or alternately, set the resolution to any lower resolution you want, but reduce the frame rate to the value you would get if you were to set 1280 pixels horizontal.

For example, if you want 1024x720 at maximum quality, set the camera to 1280x720, observe the maximum frame rate (1502), set the camera to 1024x720 and set the frame rate to 1502 or lower.

This limitation will be fixed in a future software update, there is a way to configure the sensor optimally for any selected resolution but we need time to implement this change.

great to know! sounds good i will do that,
thanks
patrick

i was dreaming about taking a bmpcc speed booster and taking off the Micro 4/3 mount and having a csmount machined , but alas the glass of the speed booster sticks out too far
anybody else have any crazy ideas with more luck to decrease fov?

thanks so much,
do you notice a big drop in quality if you pick your own resulution, i have a fisheye that doesnt fully cover the corners and so i slightly drop the res, but it seems like it makes way more of a diffrence in quality than the small change would seem?

i would love to be able to just the jog wheel while recording to change the shutter angle to brighten or darken the image
also to use it to click on a popup window option, and jog back and forth on which option is selected

After Ethernet is done, one of the next updates will be revamping the color processing and white balance settings. You'll be able to select your illuminant spectrum (daylight, LED, etc) and it will white balance based on that. Also in the cards is automatic detection of a Color Checker test card to determine the proper color correction matrix for white balance.
yay! this is great!  awesome job!
question how often should we be black calabrating ? do we need to when we change the shutter slider?

hey So when trying to use the auto record and auto save after trigger i get a warning that the "estimated file size is larger than room on the media/4gb attempt to save?" and that requires a screen tap to go away so it defeats the purpose and makes it so the camera cant be used remote or in a water housing,  maybe allow the record button to confirm the dilog boxes when they pop up? but also make it so this screen does not pop up
thanks
