Played around with a 2 foot vacuum cannon shooting ping pong balls.

My first video ever, be kind, lol. But feel free to give any comments on how I can improve filming or camera settings etc.

The hardest thing I was having trouble with is LIGHT! Or rather the lack thereof. I did get a 1kw tungsten spotlight that may help for the next video. But I really need to find some good DIY lights I can make.

I have two of those. If you are really close, it's OK. But not nearly sufficient for real stuff.

I bought the cheapest LED worklights from a hardware store and added filter capacitors to the driver's output. They now give a flicker free, cool light but have to be run from a reduced voltage. The designers take into account the 'off time' of the flicker in order to drive the LEDs brighter when they are on, applying full mains voltage runs the LEDs at ~1.4x their "rated" wattage.

Shot some more Vacuum Cannon explosions. This time I shot a full can of soda which turned out really nice, and some eggs that did not turn out so well.. but made a really big mess, lol.

I didn’t want to start a new thread so I’m asking here. I’m considering the purchase of the 1.4 and trying to decide between monochrome and color. Ideally it would be great to have both. The main application will be for technical & R&D work and I know the monochrome is generally recommended for that application. I’ve watched a great number of videos from this thread and I’ve only seen one side by side comparison between color & mono back on page 8 and it was of flames. I’m curious if anyone has done a side by side preferably of something detailed, mechanical in a frame rate of 8000fps or higher and had a video that they could share, I’m mainly interested in comparing the detail resolution. Or if anyone has a collection of mono videos. I understand the difference in light requirements etc.  Thanks.

If you want to see Monochrome vs. Color, i would highly Reccomend you to watch the Videos of the Chanels "Beyond The Press Chanel" and "Hydraulic Press Chanel" on Youtube. They Do Lots of Experiments and other stupid stuff, and own Multiple Chronos Cameras, one of which is Monchrome, so they will show Footage of the Monochrome every now and then Side by side with Color Camera Footage. Since they try to show as high image Quality as possible, they will tend to use higher Resolution and "Lower" Framerate if Possible, so most Stuff is Full-Res, but they also did quite a bit Faster Frame-Rates Especialy with the Monochrome.
Because they Put out a lot of Content on Youtube, it might be best to contact Lauri, who runs the Chanel himself. Username is "hydraulicpresschannel" on this forum. He is a very busy man, from what i can tell, and i dont think he has time to keep track of everything posted here on the Forum, so maybe try and contact him directly. He will sure be able to reccomend you a few of his videos to watch, where you will be able to see some good Monchrome Chronos Footage. He even did an 1:1 Comparison at some Point, if i recall correctly.
Hope this helps, Havent seen any more Monochrome and Color Footage than there.

In case you haven't seen them yet, the 2 images on this page show the difference in resolution and light sensitivity between the color and mono sensors on the 1.4: https://www.krontech.ca/color-vs-monochrome/

I put together a compilation of some of my Chronos 1.4 footage, with all the new 2.1 clips out lately I thought we needed some representation from the 1.4 crowd  8)

frame rates range from 1500 fps for a lot of the wildlife shots, to 20-40k for the projectiles and explosions. There is some phenomenal research-grade footage to be captured with this camera, I hope you enjoy these few clips!

Even with the new 2.1 clips coming up, the 1.4 is still an awesome piece of hardware.
