what do you think about this lens?
« on: February 05, 2020, 09:15:06 PM »
i'm lens shopping for the 2.1 and it looks like this might be a good match:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/967345-REG/sigma_18_35mm_f1_8_dc_hsm.html/overview

it's zoom, but it has a very fast ratio (1.8) which should let in a ton of light required for high frame rates.

opinions?

This lens is equipped with an electronic diaphragm, so you will have to connect it first to the Canon or Nikon to open it completely, only then will you be able to use it. But if you need to close the aperture to increase the depth of field you will need a camera from Canon or Nikon again

In general, i would highly Reccomend the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and also his bigger Brother 50-100mm f/1.8.
Those are great lenses, very sharp and Will give a lot of light.
Highly reccomended in terms of Image Quality, Focal length and Apperture.
Zoom Range And Depth of field of these two lenses together on the 2.1 will give you very simmilar depth of field (=Background Blur) and Zoom Range as the Chronos 1.4 with the Kit lens, that comes with it.
Only issue at the moment is, that they also dont have an Apperture Control Ring on the lens, and you will have the same Problem as with your AF-S NIKKOR 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED Lens, that you need some kind of way to keep the Apperture from Closing all the Way.
If money is not too big of an Issue, and if you can find a way of controling the Apperture, this is propably the best allrounder-Lens you will be able to get.
.
If really hate your wallet, you can also get the Cine-Version of this lens:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Customized-cine-sigma18-35mm-f1-8-Canon-EF-FOR-RED-RAVEN-BMCC-BMPCC-SONY-5D-C300/262784328323?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D357f90b77634492d9b22c1e99ecd7334%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D143524893047%26itm%3D262784328323%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
.
This is just the same Lens in an Different, full Metall Housing and Has an Propper Apperture-Control-Ring, so no problems here with any kind of adapters (Thats why for the Cine-Version Canon Mount would be fine).

Well, ok, i finaly found an Adapter for Nikon-Lenses with Propper Apperture-Control.
This one will allow you to use any Nikon Brand Lens (also G-Style Lenses without apperture Control on the Lens itself) or other brand Lens with Nikon Mount, and Control the Apperture Propperly without the need to jam That Metal Tab on the Back of the Lens open.
with this one you can even precisely control it and set any prefered Value on the apperture via that Blue Ring on the Adapter:
.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1150822-REG/fotodiox_nkg_af_c_pro_lens_mount_adapter.html
.
#EDIT#:
Description from the Adapter On the Website:
.
"The Nikon G to C-Mount Pro Lens Mount Adapter from FotodioX allows you to mount your Nikon G mount lenses, both FX and DX, onto your C-mount camera and maintain infinity. The adapter's blue dial enables you to manually control the lens's aperture for exposure control, which G lenses normally need to have controlled by the camera body."
