Green fringing motion problem
« on: October 02, 2024, 06:54:23 PM »
I have an intermittent problem with my Chronos 2.1 and I'd appreciate other users help.

Sometimes there is a green fringe, which appears to be a misaligned frame.  On faster motion the fringe is more obvious, so I don't think it's a lens issue.

Any ideas, and any way to stop this in future?
Is it a black calibration thing?  I calibrate at the start of the day, and if I make any changes to frame rate or shutter angle/exposure.

Shooting at 1000fps.
Nanlux LED lights at 100% (no flicker)

I've attached two RAW frames of a champagne cork popping where you can see the clear difference in green fringe as the cork accelerates.
Thanks

Hello Photopage,

The artifact displayed in your image is a known issue with the sensor of the Chronos 2.1.This happens when the when the background it illuminated significantly. The pixels of the sensor saturate with charge. Not all the charge can be removed when the exposure ends and before the next frame is exposed. This creates a ghost in the image from the previous image. It is more obvious when there are regions of fast motion, like the fast moving cork in the image.

The green color may come from the illumination itself. In the white light the green is the most prevalent wavelength. Also, the sensor color is more sensitive to green as Bayer filter array has two green components, one blue and one red.

Thank you Rob. This makes perfect sense.
I'll try to move my client away from bright white backgrounds for future work.
Much appreciated!
