Smallrig?

I saw small rig post a picture on their facebook of a smallrig on a chronos 1.4 but for the life of me can't find it anywhere.

Does anyone know if they actually are making one?

Personally, I ordered one unit in July 2022 and it cost $300 USD. It took a few weeks to arrive, but it was definitely worth the wait.

From my experience, you will need to contact DreamRig directly and request this special order. You can email them directly at [email protected].

So it is thanks to Somosrobolt https://www.instagram.com/somosrobolt/ on IG he shared the cage he uses for the Chronos.


The cage is 1584 for Canon. It fits. You need the 2060 cold shoe as well. You bolt the cold shoe to the top of the Chronos and the top of the cage has a shoe tab that slide into that cold shoe.

I flipped the right side brackets so it helps to clear the battery door. You still need to rotate the camera a bit to clear the bottom of the cage. Another minor issue is pulling the SD card. It sits under the cage and I found it easier to loosen the cold shoe tab screws...

Thank you I will look into that. Looks like money well spent. A lot more than the 40 bucks I paid for the smallrig for my sony a6400 but still I want one.

I want to add a SSD on top of the camera. I have seen a picture somewhere of that.

Now I just have to figure out how?

Yes, money well spent- the cage has been super helpful! The price is high because they don't have stock of these cages, instead they're made on demand. There are some mentions of alternative cage options which might serve your needs, as well as discussion about mounting an SSD, both on that same thread in my previous post.

If you have access to a 3D printer, you can print a cage for your SSD. There's a thread dedicated to that as well:

This is an SSD holder for the Chronos 1.4 and 2.1-HD. This accessory is invaluable when shooting DNG on the go; save speed is vastly improved compared to an SD card. The camera can write about 60MB/s to a SATA SSD instead of ~12MB/s to most SD cards. DNG saves at about 12FPS on the 2.1-HD and about 18FPS on the 1.4, at full resolution.

We plan to offer this for sale in our store eventually, but you can 3D print one right now! The attached models have been updated from the pictures shown, the SD card...

Personally, I use a variety of differently shaped drives, so find a clamp (such as for mounting your phone) works best. I've tried a bunch of them but so far this one from SmallRig is my favorite:

It has a really strong hold, and 9 mounting positions which work especially well in combination with the cage

I did just get a printer. Something called a Bamboo x. Haven't had a chance to open the box and set it up yet.
